Will Ferrell made lots of people laugh, hosts and cast members alike. Horatio and Jimmy stand out because they laugh during other sketches. I was just skimming through my volume 2 DVD of Ferrell and in one sketch, he gets Molly to laugh and in another Pierce Brosnan.
Oh, and where's Darrell Hammond? He's the best impressionist-- or is it mimic?-- I've ever seen. His Sean Connery is kind of a parody, but his Dick Cheney and Phil Donahue impressions are spot on, good enough to steal their mail from the Post Office if he wanted to.
Chris Rock writes better jokes, but he had some stale bits on the show. I like to read his stuff. It works on paper. Not a fan of Sandler and the passive-aggressive thing.
What about Chevy?? Oh YEAH....forgot he became a humorless, no talent ass-clown in his later years--the biggest let down...sad really
Damn! That show has been on for 30 friggin' years!!!. Even if the poll were changed to "which season had the best cast" there would have to be 30 entries. And nobody mentioned Steve Martin or Billy Crystal. EDIT: looks like Steve Martin was not a cast member. hhmmm.. that's strange... I coulda sworn he was doing "king tut" and "two wild and crazy guys" as a cast member. Here's a pretty decent SNL archive site. -- droxford
First time seeing this threat so I must add. Here's my top ten in no particular order besides the first two: 1. Eddie Murphy 2. Tracy Morgan 3. Chris Hartman 4. Molly Shannon 5. Horatio Sanz 6. Tim Meadows 7. Chris Kattan 8. Darrell Hammond 9. Bill Hader 10. Mya Rudolph
As long as the show keeps churning out players that get legitimate weight as stars (movies, tv, otherwise), there will alway be an SNL.
Some personal favorites off the top of my head Will Ferrell Phil Hartman Horatio Sanz Tim Meadows Chris Farley Rachel Dratch Tina Fey (as a writer, not so much on screen) Fred Armisen Nasim Pedrad Bobby Moynihan Kristen Wiig Che + Jost
