It was late 80's but I don't recall them stopping... but then again I was a bit distracted at points durring the show.
1. sara Mclachlan 2. Jonatha Brooke 3. Suzanne vega 4. Fiona Apple 5. Alana Davis 6. Tracy Chapman 7. Natalie Merchant 8. tori Amos 9. Lisa Loeb 10 Ani Defranco
You took the words right out of my mouth. Listening to a Fiona Apple record is like listening to a session with a psychiatrist. I'd rather listen to music.
Hata Also great pick, Finn on Rickie Lee Jones! I just bought my 2nd album of hers, so I didn't feel comfortable putting her in my list. However, if the rest of her albums are like her debut, she should be my #1 before too long!
Pirates is so f!@#ing great it's not even funny. It should have been album of the year in 1981. It's like Joni Mitchell meets Steely Dan. OK maybe it's a bit too much but not far from it.
Tracy Nelson of Mother Earth - saw Mother Earth and Tracy at the Vulcan Gas Company, in Austin, around '67 or '68. They played about a 3 hour set, everyone was lying on matresses on the floor and gettin' blown. I swear, she could make the little hairs on the back of your neck stand up and give you chills, she was that good. The band was great as well. An old poster below shows how popular they were. Grace Slick - when they were the Airplane Janis w/ Big Brother & the Holding Company (lost her before she got with a really good band) Joni - any era Carole King - great songwriter Laura Nyro - from 1968 and her best, imo. Chrissy and the Pretenders the girls of Fleetwood Mac (the band was better as a blues group with Peter Green) Dan Hicks and his Hot Licks - a great group, and the Hot Licks rocked. They did some solo stuff during the sets with Dan. More recent - Shawn Colvin kd lang Venus Hum Sarah McLachlan Lots of amazing women I can't remember at the moment.
Nice post Deckard (as always). I see the Flam'n Groovies on that concert poster. Damn, I would have loved to have seen them.
Dolores Mary Eileen O'Riordan Burton The Cranberries End of list. --- Another head hangs lowly, Child is slowly taken. And the violence caused such silence, Who are we mistaken? But you see, it's not me, it's not my family. In your head, in your head they are fighting, With their tanks and their bombs, And their bombs and their guns. In your head, in your head, they are crying... In your head, in your head, Zombie, zombie, zombie, Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head, In your head, Zombie, zombie, zombie? Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, dou, dou, dou, dou, dou... Another mother's breakin', Heart is taking over. When the vi'lence causes silence, We must be mistaken. It's the same old theme since nineteen-sixteen. In your head, in your head they're still fighting, With their tanks and their bombs, And their bombs and their guns. In your head, in your head, they are dying... In your head, in your head, Zombie, zombie, zombie, Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head, In your head, Zombie, zombie, zombie? Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, oh, oh, Oh, oh, oh, oh, hey, oh, ya, ya-a...
