I hate fuzzy's pizza, but some of my favorite places El Tiempo (Richmond) best fajitas Thai Spice (Rice Village)
I'll keep the list fairly short: Italian -- Damian's, Grotto, Carrabba's TexMex -- El Tiempo (Washington only, Richmond too crowded), Cyclone Annaya's, Ninfa's Navigation, Teala's Mexican -- Hugo's New American -- Benjy's, Gravitas Fine Dining -- Monarch, Vic & Anthony's, Del Frisco's (haven't been to the new one in the Galleria yet though) Sushi - Fish, Kona Grill South American -- Churrasco's BBQ -- Midtown BBQ (apparently I'm the only one who likes it), Otto's (sad to see the one on Memorial close), looking for better places here Casual -- Champps, Berryhill, Onion Creek, Star Pizza I'm sure I forgot a bunch.
Always surprised at the pick of Chuy's as good Tex-Mex. If you like Ninfa's on Navigation, push yourself a little further into the East End and try Mambo Parrilla (on Harrisburg and Wayside), Don Carlos (on 76th) or El Jardin (also on Harrisburg, closer to the Ship Channel).
i'll only list the ones that arn't posted yet. prices are all estimates, but pretty close. viet: Tau Bay on bellaire - get the seafood pho but ask for shrimp only. $5.75 Lee's Sandwhiches - BBQ Pork. about $2.50 Chinese: Mandarin Cafe on long pt / blalock - chinese spaghetti - $8.50. Mixseafood soup - $8.50 Mexican: Taqueria Cancun on gessner - 2 flour beef enchilada lite plate $4.75 BerryHill Tamales - any enchilada plate $7 Buffets: Todai - asian/japanese free on your bday $28 with drink. Dojo (the boat restaurant) on beltway / bellaire - lunch only but order one of 10 items (including japanese favorites such as terriyaki salmon) on the menu ($8-$15) and it includes a buffet of 6 different rolls, salad bar, and fruit/desert bar. It's not a huge buffet but the quality makes up for that. Desert: Delux Cafe ($$) all i can think of for now.
La Fogata Restaurant (Colombian) Wilcrest/59 opposite side of Fry's and Frenchy's J's Bistro off of Clay I believe...(I know the chefs) Pho Nguyen on Beechnut and Wilcrest. I have a question for RocketManTex or someone else... How does Carrabba's compare with other Italian restaurants? What is the best Italian restaurant in the SW side of town to u? Help me! and also best place to get BBQ or steaks on the SW side of town... I like trying new places...
You're too new, so you get nothing. Why am I still up? And where is my phone? T Rex, if I left it at your place, let me know. (the good news is that I didn't do my random drunken Sunday text.)
I like Carraba's, but I only do the original one on Kirby. I think it's head and shoulders above the others. Auntie Pasto's in Bellaire is pretty good Italian as well. BBQ or steaks on the SW side? There really aren't any good ones in my neck of the woods. Old Hickory Inn on Braeswood is good for a sandwich or for beef ribs on the weekend, but everything else is hit and miss. Perhaps some of the other posters who live in Stafford, Missouri City & Sugarland can help you out.
Lee's Sandwiches are terrible. Their bread is too hard and their meat isn't that flavorful. On the same street, go to Paris Sandwich Cafe. MUCH better sandwiches, same style. Located at: 8282 Bellaire Blvd Houston, TX 77036 Get the special and BBQ pork sandwich.
I'll do the Clear Lake area: Mexican: Los Rameriz (El Camino Blvd)- nothing south of the beltway beats it. Sushi - Ichibon (Kemah) Buffet: East Star (NASA rd 1) Greek - Mediterraneo Market & Cafe (Nassau Bay) Pizza / Italian - Angelo's (El Dorado), for pizza buffet Double Dave's Hamburger - Tookies (Seabrook) Diner - Seabrook Classic Cafe (NASA rd 1) Margaritas - Valdo's Seafood House (NASA rd 1, El Lago) Sandwich - Hoagie Ranch (Kemah) View - Sundance Grill (Seabrook) Vietnamese / Pho - Pho Hoang (NASA rd 1)
i believe it is: indian owner born and raised in kenya, moved to london, then off to the states. at least that's the way it is for my brother in law and a lot of his friends and family. the food is indian but with several kenyan/african influences (one rice dish in particular is almost entirely an african dish). i'm not really sure what constitutes as british-style indian, so i really couldn't say. i'll ask my BIL about it.
Very excellent addition. I can't believe I forgot this one. Also one to add... Armando's. It has no sign outside (potential snootiness factor) - but great margaritas and great food. It's just next door to Chuy's on Westheimer - in the shopping complex at the intersection of Westheimer and Kirby...
i've heard the food there isn't that great, but i've never been so what do i know... it's in the old river oaks grill.
Yes - that's where its located. Different strokes for different folks - but my friends and I all love it (of course every time we eat there we're pretty knocked out by the huge margaritas - so maybe our judgment is not the best...)
A lot of my faves have already been mentioned. I would say, if you like Indian, give Indika a shot on Westheimer near Montrose. It's pricey, but the food is fantastic. It isn't strictly traditional but it's not fusion, either... it's artistic takes on Indian flavors. The restaurant is gorgeous and it's a great date spot. I can't believe no one has mentioned Frenchy's yet! The Scott St. location is definitely worth going out of your way for, and if you attend UH and don't go there at least once a week, well, you suck! I finally tried Lankford's Grocery (on Waugh?) for lunch this year and it was everything everyone says. Best burger ever. I'm also voting for whichever presidential candidate proposes in '08 that Pappadeaux be made a national park. We simply can't risk that anything ever happens to it.
