Go to Romano's on West Gray or to the original Candelari's on Bissonnet @ Newcastle. Still waiting to find out when Patsy Grimaldi's (Brooklyn's finest...just started franchising) is going to open in Sugarland Town Center.

Not yet, but it is definitely on my restaurant "to do" list.

Where are you watching the game Saturday night? See the UT-TTU thread...I think this game calls for a formal get-together!

Since this thread is about chains, Pizza Hut wins for me. Pappa John's thin crust is OK, but their regular crust is way too bready.

Now if you want to talk about the best pizza ever, that's Spaghetti Western at Shepherd and I-10. The sauce is like crack. A close 2nd would be Candelari's. Star Pizza is over-rated.

Yeah, I saw that, and I'm tempted to go, but I can't commit to anything yet. This is going to be a huge game, and we're going to have a big group for it.

That said, Lucky's would be an interesting venue. It is also headquarters for Texas Tech games. I went there for the Kansas State game, and it was standing room only filled with Tech fans.

Either way, I'm simply not sure yet.

The absolute best pizza I've ever had was a personal-sized "supreme" pizza from a chain called Pepperoni's. It was AWESOME!!!

But, a couple of months later I ordered a large of the same thing and wasn't the same. So, whatever that means.

Second place was a little spot in Covington, Louisiana (across Lake Ponchatraine from New Orleans).

I usually go for for Pizza Hut's super supreme pizza, no green peppers with added diced tomatoes. Then get an order of cheesy bread sticks on the side. Yum.

Though, for a while a couple of years ago, Papa Johns had some sort of special Italian meats pizza and is was pretty damn good. But, not a big fan of their's usually.

I don't think I've ever had Pizza from Domino's, just their subs.

Had Little Ceasar's a lot growing up because my family loved it, though I did not.

I took my son to Chucky Cheese a couple of months ago and was really surprised. I got the three meat pizza and it was actually pretty good.

Cici's = the grossest stuff on the planet. If you want cheap buffet pizza, go to Incredible Pizza. That stuff is a lot better.

Having worked at a pizza place for several years,
I can tell you the 3 secrets that go into making a great pizza.

    1) Ingredients. Quality ingredients bring out the flavor and texture of a good pizza. Imagine the difference between homemade sausage and those chain store dog food pellets.
    2) Technique. This is an art. The shaping the dough and spreading of the ingredients. If done masterfully the pizza crust will remain crisp through out no matter the toppings. This is an important sign of a great pizza. Soggy crust = Big No No
    3) The right oven. Contrary to popular belief you can not achieve the above desired results easily if you have the wrong oven. Traditionally Brick Ovens are preferred, and dedicated Pizza Ovens may also suffice depending on technique, but they are above and beyond the conveyer belts used by the chains.

    My favorites....
    Candelaris
    and
    Star Pizza

I'm down for Lucky's. It would be fun to have a huge table that was mixed with UT and TTU fans....all drunk as a skunk and yelling! :D

One I haven't seen on here is Pizza Patron. I find it very tasty. I wonder if they still accept pesos.

As far as chains go, Papa John's thin crust all the way.

Pizza Hut has the best pan pizza.

Although I do find myself ordering from Dominoes just cause of the cheesy bread.

AND I can't believe no one has mentioned this but Pepperoni's chain in Sugar Land is by far the best pizza I've ever had. It's locally owned and operated but there's like 3 stores or something.

How can people vote for CiCi's? It is gross.

If you want a buffet like that, you need to try Stevie B's. They are really good, but they don't have them in Texas.

Do you work for Star or own part of their company? Otherwise, I don't comprehend your stance. I know its a matter of personal opinion but their pizza is complete ****.

Cici's is great man, though I have noticed their take out tends to taste a bit better.
