I always thought "Here's the band Big Country, with their song Big Country, off of their album Big Country" was just an awesome way to set yourself up for this kind of thread. Fantastic song though.
Off the top of my head: 70's: 80's: (@rocketsjudoka already did Modern English, here's another favorite) 90's: 00's: I got nothin, but I feel like I should be able to come up with something 10's: I got nothin 20's: I got nothin
Half of the band totally hates that song, the other half loves it. I'm on the "love it" side. Hell, even my granddad loved that song.
Everclear had a couple of other hits including Speaking of One Hit Wonders Also for fans of Mad Men, young Christina Hendricks in this video. (maybe this should be in Classic Beauties)
Aimee Mann was/is a cool chick. 'Til Tuesday's entire catalog (and her solo stuff) is all pretty strong. But yeah, they really only had one BIG hit.
Shout out to Waco! Another one that always gives me the feels. These videos encompass all that was right and so wrong in the 90's.
The problem I have with this thread is that “one hit wonders” is a pejorative term and should not be applied to great bands that may not have been in the mainstream but were extremely influential. Talk Talk and Echo and the Bunnymen have put out albums that blow away many albums with multiple hits. Just sayin…
I'm glad you commented. I didn't even realize that was her singing on Time Stand Still. She seems to have had about as good a career as most can hope. And she has some stuff I can get into.
Definitely not a one hit wonder band, even if you don't like their music. Everything is wonderful now was on 104 every day. Father of mine, wonderful were both mainstream hits.
