Hmmm, tough question. Wes Montgomery Descendents Jawbreaker Guns & Roses New Order Reverend Horton Heat Nirvana John Coltrane The Get Up Kids Saves the Day I'm probably forgeting my favorite, I just know it.
OUCH! mishii made me realized I left The Flaming Lips off my list. I do believe 'The Soft Bulletin' is my all-time favorite LP. Joshfasts' mention of Jawbreaker brings a smile. I actually played a couple gigs with those guys around 1990. Freaking, Chico California and Portland Oregan, I believe. They of course at least went on to a very well deserved cult staus while the singer is now fronting Jets to Brazil. Mr Meowgi, Tell Biscuit I thought the Big Boys were great. They would always use those tiny amps (when only stacks of Marshalls were cool), mic them up and let it rip.
Damn, thats really cool. What band were you in? I never got to see them live but heard they were amazing.
1) QUEEN These are not in order: Alan Parsons Neil Diamond Sting Guns n roses Savage Garden Soundtrack of Space Jam Billy Joel And more. And I like the music from the past more the music that is playing right now.
1. Jonatha Brooke 2. Natalie Merchant 3. Sarah Mclachlan 4. David Gray 5. Tracy Chapman Honorable Mentions: Alana Davis, Fiona Apple, Damien Rice, Suzanne Vega, Tori Amos, Norah Jones
I am quite honored and privileged to be your favorite artist, SJC, especially considering how I barely beat out David Hasselhoff for that award.
Steely Dan Little Feat Allman Brothers Taj Mahal SRV (of course Beatles, Zep, Clapton,Who, Stones..true but boring)
Joshfast, I played in a LA band called Yard Trauma. We never really did well in the States, but did had a small fan base in Europe. Enough to do a couple tours there. In retrospect I guess our only claim to fame would be that our last two cd's were produced by Brett Gurewitz of Bad Religion. Last I checked they were still available on Amazon.com. Well, it was all fun but it never did get the bills payed (as fellow musicians here would know). Now I'm just a fan and love finding new artists, bands etc. that have not gotten big yet.
wow, only minor seaching on the web makes it look like you were in a big time rock band: "Yard Trauma were one of the leading revival bands of the 1980s." - http://www.scaruffi.com/vol4/yardtrau.html "Yard Trauma have been around a long time and have gone through a huge evolution during their existence. If you haven't heard them in the last two years, it's time to try again, because the band sounds totally different. The current line up is a hard driving monster with a huge guitar sound and some intense songs, most of which rock like crazy and are catchy as hell." - http://www.nkvdrecords.com/yardtrau.htm "Yard Trauma may not have mellowed much, but this disc showcases a band at the top of its form." - http://cent.com/abetting/archXYZ.html
I swear I have heard of this band a long while ago, thats really cool that you were in it and now i'm posting with you on a Rockets forum. Wierd. Every band I have been in, it would have been a dream to get produced by the Bad Religion or Descendents guys. I wanted to go to Cornell because Greg Graffin teaches there. I'll check your cd's on Amazon.
Thanks for the kudos, guys. I joined Yard Trauma for the final two LP's (guitar, vocals) and really enjoyed the ride. 'Lose Your Head' is the one I would recommend were anyone seriously interested, but that was not the purpose of my posting here. I'm just interested in what bands are the favorites of other members here (a surprisingly diverse and educated group for a sports forum - hey, I love the Rockets), as the thread was intended to be. I would love to hear about other favorites. Feliz Navid, Walt
Hey Win, Yeah, I really love 'The Soft Bulletin.' It really is one of my all time favorites. I know some fans of theirs likes 'Yoshimi' better (and maybe I should with all the overt Japanese themes in that album), but I prefer 'The Soft Bulletin' and consider it their masterpiece album. It is also cool that you were in a band. Unfortuntely, I have never heard of Yard Trauma. Is there anyway you could describe what your songs are like (yeah I know that's not easy) or better yet if there is a place I can listen to some clips, I would appreciate it. Thanks. Well it's Christmas here in Tokyo already and it seems like Houston is getting a White Christmas. Enjoy it guys. Have a safe and happy holiday season.
