Favorites: Prince Cure Stones Bob Marley Sting / Police George Jones U2 The groups I am sure they play in hell if I end up there: Eagles- in Hell they play "Hotel California" in frequent rotation (I truly hate the Eagles music- they have done more to affect country music than any other group) Chicago Styyxx-so sweet - so horrible AABBA Bachman Turner Overdrive VAn halen Kiss Alabama-that good old country --Charmin soft -lite pop music their Eagle brethren daringly developed Michael Jackson
Am always surprised at the musical taste among the members here. So UT Weezer likes 'The Dolls' and 'The Heartbreakers'? And to top it off Mr Meowgi loves the Buzzcocks and gives praise the 'The Big Boys' (I saw them by accident at Spit, back in the day. Anyone remember that club)? Sheeess the 'Slits', Mr F? Ahhh, I do love it Given five I will choose: Mott The Hoople The Smiths Built To Spill Replacements XTC Guided BY Voices, The Geraldine Fibbers and of course, The Beetles. ai could really go on and on. What about Roxy Music?
The Big Boys were right before my time, I was in junior high during their heyday. I freakin' love them however. For those who don't know: http://www.soundonsound.org/ I did see Bad Mother Goose billions of times...
one of the best Texas bands ever... i still hang out with Randy (Biscuit) on a semi-regular basis. that guy is still amazing even at about 55years old! he will be impressed when i tell him about the support from a Rockets message board .
nice to the folks who put the Heartbreakers on the list as well. Thunders was a classic. In a slightly different vain, I want to add one more to my list for anyone who was around Houston in the '80's. Thank goodness for the all ages shows at numbers. The Judys.
I haven't heard "Guyana Punch" in quite some time. Does anyone remember an Austin Band in the 90's called "Bouffant Jelleyfish"? They were awesome. Well, at least one song was.
Bouffant Jellyfish was a pretty fun band to see live. i remember there used to be these "all Funk" shows regularly in Austin and Houston. the lineup would be something like: Bouffant Jellyfish Retarted Elf Billygoat Bad Mutha Goose Sprawl (btw, Sprawl is probably the best Houston band of that era, if not All Time.) i think i'm going to go to #'s this weekend when i'm back in houston. i had some pretty insane times there back in the eighties...
my list is odd, eclectic, and too predictable, i wear my taste for music on my sleeve! that is, I am willing to get into an argument over the music i am pssionate about. here goes: 1.Led Zeppelin 2. Beastie Boys 3.Bob Dylan 4.Bob Marley honorable mentions(much like Manny) Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Beck, Miles and Cannonball
U2 Radiohead Wilco Miles Davis (especially his time with Coltrane and company) Mr. Children (Japanese pop-rock band) Honorable Mentions: Beatles (yeah, they should probably be in the top five), Elvis, Hendrix, Van Halen, Michael Jackson (despite all his legal troubles - was a great entertainer), Flaming Lips, Travis, and I am sure countless others that I have forgotten...
The singer from Sprawl, Matt, has two great bands these days: middlefinger, which has been around for a while, and Les Saucy Pants, which he started with his wife a year or two ago.
