Ahhh...good ol' Departed. It would've been a "holy sht wtf?" ending for those who did not watch the chinese version called Infernal Affairs. They pretty much mashed IA1 and IA3 all together into one. So that ending wasn't as surprising. Everyone has great responses, but for a movie twist/surprise that REALLY let me down was Spiderman 3. I really didn't expect that ending to happen cause: Spoiler Why would they kill Venom off so quick? He didn't have any real good fights, and they did alot of story building around Eddie Brock only to what...kill him off like that? I'll eat my words if he somehow does come back, but I highly doubt it. It's like killing off lex luthor or magneto after building up their story for 80% of the movie. Lame! Kill Bill had an interesting plot twist when Spoiler Bill asked Sophie if she knew Kiddo's daughter was still alive There's plenty of other awesome twists but I cant think of anymore at the moment.
speaking of movies with twists, I watched "vantage point" last night, it was pretty good. not really a twist ending, but alot of plot twists leading up to ending
The Sixth Sense, Fight Club, and The Usual Suspects are all up there, but my favorite was Young Sherlock Holmes. Spoiler After unmasking Rathe as the villain, Sherlock apparently kills him in a fight on a frozen lake. During the credits, you see a horse carriage going through the country side. At the very end of the credits, a man checks into a hostel and signs his name "Moriarty" and the camera pans up to show Rathe. That ending is the reason I never leave a movie theatre until the final credits roll.
Abre Los Ojos(Open Your Eyes) - The entire 2nd half of that flick was full of unexpected twists. Of course everyone knows them now that it was remade as the inferior Vanilla Sky. Jagged Edge - Not so much a twist since Jeff Bridges' character either killed his wife or he didn't. But right up until the very end, it was impossible to tell.
6th Sense far and away the best twist Second would be Primal Fear - didn't see that coming at all Third - Memento, a pretty good twist Honorable Mention: Fight Club (better movie than Memento or Primal Fear, but I found the twists in the other two to be better)
brotherhood of the wolf. It was just clever all around,a must for all cinemaphiles. Frailty caught me off guard too. I also want to add the land before time to the list. I wasn't expecting littlefoot's mother to die.
Classic literature by Alexandre Dumas. There have been a few movies based on this and none of them can hold a candle to the novel.
Titanic Never figured an unsinkable boat would actually go down from an iceberg. I mean how do you hit an iceberg? They're huge.
All the movies I can think of have already been mentioned, except for "Stay" with Ryan Gosling. It was a confusing, yet vividly beautiful movie where you had to piece the little bits of information together the whole way, and then you find out that any of your theories are wrong at the end. Most people that have watched it since I've started recommending it have no idea what went on, even when I explain it to them - so it's not a big "Whoa!", it's more like a "WTF?".
Sorry to quote myself, but I just looked it up on IMDB, and this user review summed it up better than I could: A brilliant film about a young man near death It's hard to comment on this film without including a spoiler, but I feel it is necessary to try because of all of the unwarranted bad reviews this film is receiving. If you go into it expecting to see a rendition of The 6th Sense, you might be disappointed. If you go into it expecting to see a logical plot with a chronological story behind it and an honest portrayal of developed characters, you will be disappointed and very confused. However, if you go see this film with an open mind and simply EXPERIENCE what it has to offer, you will be rewarded greatly at the end - assuming, of course, that you understand what you have just seen, at least to some degree. For the best experience, pay attention to the little details, but don't try to figure anything out until the end. See it with someone so that you can discuss it afterward. It's that good. This movie is visually appealing and artistically constructed - pleasing to both the eye AND to the mind. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0371257/#comment
One that had a very satisfying plot twist was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.. actually a few good twists in that one.
I just saw this at Wal Mart for like $9. I should have bought it because when I went back a week later I didn't see it.
I remember putting "Keyser Soze" on my letter jacket during high school... way ahead of my time... My Principal(RIP Mr. Homquist) was like "please explain that one to me!" All I said was "The Usual Suspects" The following week, he came back up to me and was like "Where's the limp?" But yeah, other than "The Usual Suspects", what about "The Life of David Gale" with Spacey?!
