Thank you! That's one I couldn't remember earlier. Another one of those Saturday morning kung-fu goodies!
The original "Drunken Master" (1978) stars Jackie Chan and another dude, so I guest it's teh one you saw. He was really young. There is also "Drunken Master II" (1994) under the title "the legend of drunken master" in English.
I like a lot of stuff with George Liu in it as well as a lot of Shaw Brothers movies. I'm also more into movies with a "traditional" theme to them as opposed to a lot of the new Jackie Chan/Jet Li made-for-box-office garbage. Five Deadly Venoms : if you think you're a kung fu fan and don't like this movie, then you're not a kung fu fan. This movie is legendary! I really need this on DVD... thanks for reminding me. Master Killer (aka, the 36th Chamber of Shaolin) Return of the Master Killer, (aka, Return to the 36th Chamber) The Kid with the Golden Arm Legendary Weapons of China I think I may have watched Once Upon a Time in China and liked it... don't remember. Too many Bruce Lee movies to even count. Others have mentioned them.
My god! I've got to watch that movie again! I never realized he was in it. Which character did he play? He wasn't the main one was he? That guy looked older.
My bad ...thought it was Jet.I just saw this one a couple of weeks ago and it instantly became a favorite.
Any of the old Hong Kong Jackie Chan films. Armour of God is among my favorites. Those movies are great to watch late at night when your brain has gone to bed, but your body is still awake.
I don't remember what the name was but my favorite Chan movie was one where he was like a rookie cop and there were these pirates on an island ?? Seemed like it may have been set in the early 1900's ..anyone know what I'm talking about ? been a long time but I'd like to see that one again.
all the bruce lee movies, because he could actually beat the crap out of anyone he wanted to. the legend of drunken master would be next. i like jet li, but none of his movies are all that great, most of them have too much supernatural stuff.
Did you watch Jet li's earlier film like ShaoLin Temple? His recent films are geared toward American audiance, thus have a lot of special effects in them. While Lee's are forceful and western, Chan's are practical, Jet li's martial arts are academic. He was trained in Shaolin, and got the national championship of martial art when he waas 16 or something. In fact, few people in Kungfu film has his kind of background or can match his fluid and grace.
It's funny that this thread was started yesterday, because last night on AMC they had a documentary on Bruce Lee called "A Warriors Journey". It detailed his life in Hong Kong and his breakthrough into American cinema(which really didn't go over very well). The best part though was a 20-30 minutes piece of film footage that was just found in the past 5-6 years from a movie he wrote, directed, acted in, etc called The Game of Death which also starred Kareem Abdul Jabar, who was one of Lee's private students. They actually had a fight scene that was pretty damn good.
Hey pimp I saw some of that show a couple of weeks ago. It had all of his notes about that fight, and explained the reasoning behind the choreography -- like he said that because of Jabar's size, he would try to wear him out rather than fight normally. It was pretty cool.
You haven't seen that movie yet? It's hilarious! The fight scene between Bruce and Kareem, classic(it's a good thing he stuck to b-ball!).....
game of death is so horrible because he died during the shooting of it. so most of the movie is a double(who doesn't even come close to looking like him) running around. in the jabbar fight scene, it's funny when he leaves that giant cartoon-like footprint on bruce. michecon- i've never seen his older stuff, but i'll definitely check it out. i have the kiss of dragon dvd and there's alot of extra stuff about jet li's background and training. the movie wasn't too good but his fight scenes were sweet.
