How in the hell did you remember me talking about beaujolais? That is pretty amazing. Yes, I am a bonafide Beaujolais freak. Especially George Duboef's stuff. It is a fresh wine made from the Gamay grape and to me it tastes better than Welches. Beaujolais season is just over but you might still be able to get some fresh stuff. You want Beaujolais Noveau, which means the new stuff. Some beaujolais is old and while it isn't bad, it isn't what I am talking about. Try it chilled slightly, man is it so good. A bottle and a half is an example of me showing restraint with this nectar of the Gods.... mmmm..... I forgot to mention it is very cheap, about 9 bucks a bottle.
Nope, not really. I do lift once or twice a week, but I'm not hardcore or anything. I just like dark rum.
Beaujolais Nouveau? Can't stand it. I've generally found French wines are pretty easy to judge the quality of. Even if you don't know anything about the wine region, there is a standard classification system. "Appelation Controlee" is used to denote wine of a certain standard within the region it comes from (e.g. Appelation Fitou Controlee). You won't go too far wrong with that. The two standards below that are Vin de Table and Vin de Pays. There are also some decent wines in those categories, but also some that are less good. I personally prefer the Beaujolais Villages, because it's a little lighter, and very easy to drink. At room temperature, it's gorgeous. Another couple varieties you might like to try are Fleurie and Fitou. I've no idea which might be cheap in the States though.
I never did drugs. I saw too many of my musician friends suffer from the effects of it, some even end up nearly dead from it. Just wasn't for me. As for drinking, it is a combination of two things: 1. I have a very LOW tolerance for acidic foods and drinks. I just cannot eat citrus fruits or drink alcohol because it really, REALLY tastes bad to me. I'm so sensitive to it, I can practically smell a drop of alcohol in a gallon of water. 2. I have alcoholics in my family and I know that the tendency is within me to end up that way, so I'd rather just avoid it. That's a big reason why I never did drugs either. This is not to say I never drank. I did at one point just because I was young and wanted to try it, but it was not often and I didn't really care for it even then.
Ice tea...in fact, waitresses freak out when I keep drinking glasses non-stop at restaurants. Sometimes they slap the whole pitcher on the table.
Hmmm… tough one. If we’re talking beer, I’ve enjoyed a few Guinness recently. Whisky? I guess Glenlivet would be my standard. Also enjoy Lagavulin, Talisker, Cardu and similar milder single malts. Laphroaig is a little too smoky for me, but once in a while … Fadeaway: First the faux crab, and now Captain Morgan’s Rum?!? You must be the family rebel.
I know how you feel Jeff. I have yet to really find a drink that I can enjoy taste wise. What makes it harder is that I avoid drinking as often as possible. I guess I'm worried I'll end up like my dad, drinking beer every single day. Not to mention I hate seeing people my age or younger drinking like there's no tomorrow and saying crap like "man, we are so fu**ed up right now" only to see them vomit and pass out. Looks like tons of fun Anyways, I'm a red wine person myself when I do drink. That french stuff sounds good legrouper, I'm gonna have to write that one down. Smirnoff Ice is good. I had a drink similar to a mojito once, but I can't remember the name. I just know it had a lot of lime and sugar in it. That was good. Nothing tops ice tea though. From the bottle, I go with Snapple, it's become my favorite. In restaurants, I always put in two sweet n' lows, and squeeze the entire lemon slice for every refill.
candycane....if you like those two drinks, try mixing a shot each of vodka and amaretto with orange juice to taste. It comes out tasting somewhat like an orange Julious at the mall.
Diet Mountain Dew Code Red (other close runner-ups: Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet Vanilla Coke, hot or iced herbal tea with Sweet'N'Low) (I don't drink alcohol for the same reason as Jeff's #2 above - for the sake of social situations, sometimes it would be easier if I did, but I've never actually felt myself wanting it)
