I agree...the strawberry and cherry topped donuts from Shipley's do have crack mixed in. I agree...Shipley's is one of the places I miss most about Houston. I would almost agree on What-A-Burger...except there is one about 90 minutes south of us in Kingman. This is my favorite donut...the french cruller (minus the chocolate)...
I've gone many times to the national headquarters of KK. And I've lived in Texas. Shipley's kills KK. And KK kills Dunkin Donuts, which is about all I can find easily on the east coast. (KK's are spread out)
and yeah, shipley's--chocolate iced, or glazed 2nd if you go to the 2nd tier at KK, I go with Custard filled/chocolate iced, then glazed, then chocolate iced if you go 3rd tier at Dunkin Donuts, chocolate frosted, boston kreme. But only if you buy before noon. After that, their donuts go to shat
Here in Round Rock, Texas, breakfast starts early - usually around 4 am. That's when locals and visitors alike start lining up to enjoy a true Texas tradition - Round Rock Donuts. Since 1926, people from all over the country have been stopping by to give our famous yellow (or are they orange?) donuts a try. Why not stop in for a visit? After all, it's not every day you get to taste a piece of Texas history. http://www.roundrockdonuts.com/
What, no poll...Slacker... You can pretty much get it anywhere, but its called an old fashioned...mmm....very sugary and tastey...
Bavarian Cream Stuffed from the little mom-and-pop place around the corner from my house. My co-workers in Louisiana called them "Texas Doughnuts".
Shipley's is actually the only kind of donut I like. Mmm, I remember there used to be one on Fry Rd & the Katy Freeway, right next to my childhood dentist's office. My mom would always take us for a donut after getting our teeth cleaned. If the dentist cleaned with flouride and told me to not eat for an hour, I just conveniently didn't tell my mom. Man, I miss that place!
Round Rock donuts are also pretty good. way too far for anyone though. Even if you're in Austin...unless you live up there, it's not worth driving so far in the morning during rush hour
Which side? The only one I remember is that Shipley's which was the first one in Katy. I still love Daylight Donuts in Katy just because of the memories.
Where was the first Shipley's? The one I'm talking about is in the Conn's strip center off the feeder on the Katy side of Fry...you know, the Houston side is where the Target, Lowes, and IHOP are.
KK's glazed is too sweet for my liking, there is a full coat of sugar all around the entire donut. It's good, but I like Shipley's a lot better.
Y'all are making it really hard to eat healthy with the favorite fast food thread and now this one. I'm firmly on the side of Shipley's vs. Krispy Kreme. Whenever I go to Houston I make sure to stop off and have some Shipleys'. I would even put Krispy Kreme behind Dunkin Donuts. I like most of the Shipley's donuts but as far as particular donuts I really like the French Apple from Dunkin, especially the ones from Boston. I don't know why but Dunkin Donuts in Boston always taste better than Dunkin Donuts everywhere else. In the Midwest there is a grocery chain called Cub and they make a german chocalate danish donut that is pretty good along with a donut that is like a glazed croissant that is great. Chinese make a type of donut that with a very light egg batter that is deep fried and then dusted with confectioners sugar. It sort of taste like a crueller and when those are fresh they are incredible.
BOOO!! Everytime I come into work late I get stuck with that one right there. It's ALWAYS the last one left. I hate crunchy donuts!
