George Jones is good...I like Hank Williams and Johnny Cash, but also love Patsy Cline and George Strait...Don't really like any new country, although there are a few good songs now and then... Some others, David Allen Coe (he autographed my belt and hat one time, right after he got out of prison), Willie and Keith Whitley...I can't think of his name, but he sang "swinging" and "straight tequila nights", i like him too...
Other's off the top of my head that haven't been mentioned: Conway Twitty Doug Stone Oak Ridge Boys Lonestar Blackhawk Fatty
In no particular order: Jerry Jeff Walker Johnny Cash Willie Nelson Hank Williams Jr. Bobby Keen Townes Van Zandt Mark David Manders (Has a great band with a unique sound - vastly underrated) Roger Creager Gary Allan
DaDakota, We have similar taste. When I read this post I was surprised to see how many of you like the old country stars. Nothing wrong with it. Just surprised that I did not see anyone posting any of todays top superstars. My favorites would be: Kenny Chesney - I love his style. Laid back and loves the Islands. He is a great entertainer and puts on a great show. I prefer his concerts in a smaller venue vs seeing him at a large football arena. Keith Urban - Admire that he is trying to deal with his addiction problems. I am sure he will come back stronger than ever. This guy is going to be on the top of the charts for a long time (if he can get a handle on his addiction issues). He has toured as one of Kenny's opening acts and I can see Keith becoming a huge star in his own right. Saw him in concert as well and I was very impressed. He put so much energy into the performance and you could see how much he loved to perform. I look forward to his upcoming concert tour in 2007. Rascal Flatts - Thought they were off to huge things when I bought their first CD several years ago. Love their lyrics. Saw them in concert in June and they were ok. Their live show could have been better. Something they can work on improving. Dierks Bentley - Another great up and coming male artist. He has also opened up for Kenny Chesney the past two years. Like Keith Urban he has a bright future in front of him. I love "Settle for a Slowdown" and "Come Little Closer". Little Big Town - Interesting 4 member group. Nice harmonies and vocals. Carrie Underwood - With her recent success. She has a very bright future. I think she is going to be ruling the top of the charts for years to come. Speaking of hot girls. She has a very classy way about her. Sara Evans - Wow. She is beautiful and she can sing. Vince Gill - The man has a such a sweet voice. "Don't Let Your Love Start Slipping Away". That album is so good!!! Garth Brooks - He owned the 90's. His songs will always be considered favorites. "Friends in Low Places", "Rodeo", "Unanswered Prayers". To me he was the ultimate entertainer in concert and probably always will be. There was nothing like going to a Garth Brooks concert.. Antisonic - LOL - Bon Jovi - - It was funny seeing them at the CMA awards and seeing them perform at some of the recent country music awards shows.
The ones that are alive: Billy Joe Shaver Rodney Crowell Robert Earl Keen Willie Nelson Wayne "The Train" Hancock Dale Watson Hank Williams III The ones that are dead: Johnny Cash Hank Williams Gram Parsons I absolutely hate mainstream country music with a passion. The only country I will listen to is either Alt-country or oldtime classic country.
Is that like calling Nelly or Sheryl Crow country? If so, then Ray Charles is the Greatest Country Singer of all time.
Nope.....Bootsy Collins is the greatest country singer of all time. See...that is a serious two-step!
