Matisyahu- Live at Stubb's is a real great album. Just picked it up after a suggestion on this board. Good stuff.
I saw Okkervil River here in H-town a few weeks ago, I think it was either at Walter's on Washington or the Proletariat. Anyway, I'm glad to see my favorites were supported by a few others. 1. Wolf Parade - Apologies to the Queen Mary Hands down my favorite album of the year. If you like Modest Mouse, then check out this band. "Shine a Light" is one of my favorite songs of all time. 2. The Decemberists - Picaresque I loved this album. 'The Mariner's Revenge Song' is one of the coolest tracks I've heard all year. 3. Jens Lekman - Oh You're so Silent Jens If you like the Magnetic Fields, check out Jens. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good year for music. If you're into the indie bands, check out KTRU (http://bang.rice.edu/listen.shtml, 91.7 in Houston). Here's hoping 2006 can measure up.
I love Magnetic Fields 89% of the time. Obviously some songs are better than others, but I find that the more they use the female lead vocalist the less I like the songs. How much does the male sing on Jens?
All the time. Jens Lekhman is one guy, from Gothenburg. There is one duet he does "Do you remember the riots?". But other than that, it's just him seeing, and he's got a similar delivery to the magnetic fields. I'd suggest checking out his latest and his 2004 album. Just go to www.allmusic.com and look him up for more info...
1) The Darkness - "One Way Ticket to Hell ... and Back" 2) Tsar - "Band/Girls/Money" 3) Brendan Benson - "The Alternative to Love" 4) Danko Jones - "We Sweat Blood" 5) Weezer - "Make Believe" 6) Supersuckers - "Devil's Food" 7) Eddie Spaghetti - "Old No. 2" 8) Turbonegro - "Party Animals" 9) OK Go - "Oh No" 10) Supergrass - "Road to Rouen"
1. The Redwalls - De Nova 2. Robert Plant - Mighty Rearranger 3. Beck - Guerrero 4. Rodney Crowell - The Outsider 5. Dwight Yokam - Blame the Vain A good year for tunes! But two countryish CD's from me? I ususally avoid country other than Dwight like the plague but our hometown boy rips this world a new one. He is rockin. I keep telling people the Redwalls DeNova sounds like Abbey Road 2005 but no one else seems to be as crazy about them as me. (not the first cut though, it's good but it's got horns and is way different from the rest of the CD) I guess since I cut my musical teeth on the Beatles they hit some deep seated pleasure center in my head but I have been pimping for them like a cheerleader.
