    thats a good one!

theres another recent compilation that you should check out if you havent already - ghana soundz: afro beat, funk and fusion in 70's ghana. more on the fela tip than the psychedelic one, but some really amazing stuff on there.

The Decemberists kick ass! They were great at the ACL festival this year.

    My Favorites from this year:

    1. Lyfe Jennings - Lyfe 268-192
    2. Stereophonics - Language.Sex.Violence.Other?
    3. The Decemberists - Picaresque
    4. DMB - Stand Up
    5. Kanye West - Late Registration
    6. John Butler Trio - Sunrise Over Sea
    7. Common - Be
    8. David Gray - Life in Slow Motion
    9. Nickel Creek - Why Should the Fire Die?

I have a feeling I'm missing quite a few. BY FAR, my favorite was Lyfe's album, and I only recently started listening to the Decemberists, but they totally rock.

    Dream Theater - Octavarium
    Green Day - American Idiot
    System of a Down - Mesmerize/Hypnotize

It's a shame that two of them, Green Day and SOAD, have political views that I disagree with, for the most part. But both bands are ridiculously talented. Pretty good year for music, for the most part.

Are you guys listing your "favorites" or ALL of the CD's you bought/MP3's you downloaded in 2005?

I can't see how you can spend this much on music... time to listen, or money.

I listed my favorite... okay, well maybe my kids' (when I'm in the car with them) favorite. But I can't name more than 6 CD's bought all year...

Now movies on the other hand... I do the new on Tuesday thing almost every week... just picked up SW:Clone Wars Vol 2, and Fantastic 4... last week a couple, week before a couple... and so on.

    I guess I'm a sports radio guy.

the rhythm section of that band are friends of mine! i think they just toured australia too - did you see them?

if you like them you should check out shearwater. the singer of okkervil is in this band too (but in a sideman role). one of my favorite bands in austin. plus, their drummers name is THOR!!! he used to play in the swans.

Most of the ones I would pick are already on here.

Franz Ferdinand, Death Cab for Cutie, Spoon.

I guess the only one I didn't see on here that I think it is one of the best is the Aqueduct - I Sold Gold.

"You know how I know your gay...you listen to Coldplay" :p

I didn't buy many albums this year, so I have to agree this wasn't the best year in music...

OMG, there is another Willy Mason fan here! The only reason I didn't list this album is because it came out last year. But damn is he awesome. I saw him open for Guster a few years ago, and he was really good. My favorites are "Sold My Soul", "Hard Hand to Hold", and "Oxygen", but the entire album is great. It used to be freely downloadable, at http://team-love.com/new/bands/willy/releases.php , but it doesn't look like it any more.
