It was all the cocaine, I'd wager.

Not necessarily what the thread is about, but I have to submit...

That single track got me completely off the commercial mainstream.

(great comments section, by the way, citing Tony Montagna singing and Conan O on guitar, LOL.)

    Speaking of 80's...

How many of yall had a mullet? I rocked the blonde curly soccer mullet for about 4 years.

Their bass player, John Taylor is amazing, I mean I love the band but his bass lines, especially on Rio (and other songs) are impressive.

I HIGHLY recommend checking out everything by them, not just the 80's stuff; their back catalog is the aural equal to LoTR and the Hobbit, sounds a bit OTT but they're the best band of the last 30's years. They will be playing in Houston April 27th @ Height Theater, playing Starfish, start to finish plus others. GO and have a life changing experience, I know after seeing them on tour in 1988 @ #'s I was never the same...

The 80's was all about using as many synth instruments as you could find, and failing that, making every instrument sound as synthetic and processed as possible through studio processing like the dreaded "gated reverb". Then top it off with the most androgynous sounding vocalists you can find.

I seriously thought the female singer from Yaz and the male singer from Erasure were the same person for most of the 80's.

    Examples:

If you want to know the dark, creeping techno-horror of the 80's, the phrase "Neil Young dance remix" should be sufficient nightmare fuel:
