Yes one of us did. It's about the third post in this thread and it was mine. Of course Lennon and Mcartney are on the list, Difford and Tilbrook from Squeeze were awesome as well. I was happy to see Billy Bragg, as well as Ray Davies get mentioned. I would like to add Strummer/Jones from the Clash to my list. Frank Black definitely is on there. David Bowie has had an amazing songwriting career as well.
Butch Walker Nikki Sixx Glenn Danzig Peter Steele Rick Nielsen Ginger (Wildhearts) David Bowie Gene Simmons Paul Stanley Donnie Vie
He actually wrote (and recorded) Respect, Aretha's signature song. But you can't mention Otis without mentioning his partner Steve Cropper who co-wrote many of Redding's songs including Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay as well as such classics as In the Midnight Hour, and Knock on Wood. He was a huge part of the rise of R & B in the 60's.
Off the top and in no particular order.... Donald Fagen Eddie Holland, Lamont Dozier, & Brian Holland Early Lennon & McCartney Lowell George, Billy Payne & Paul Barrere
Though not exactly my favs, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds and R. Kelly deserve mention in this thread too.
Quite right. And remember that Rolling Stones song, '(I can't get no) satisfaction' ?..... not a Stones song. That was Redding's. -- droxford
I'm sorry, droxford, but you are 100% wrong. "Satisfaction" was written by Jagger/Richards in 1965, and covered by Otis Redding in 1967. Thanks for playing.
