This is my largest concern. I have a few criminal things. All misdemeanors, but they'd be exploited. Not sure if I came out clean with my record it would matter, or if my background completely screws me.
As long as you stay away from the moral values card, a criminal record screams personality. "Fatty, a politician you can drink with... As long as you pay for the ride home!"
You need a lot of money and a lot of friends who have a lot of money. And you need to be willing to beg your friends to give you their money (this will take up every spare minute of your life for about a year). Then you need a message, party backing, and a strong, dedicated organization. Even with all that, you will lose, badly, to all but the most vulnerable incumbents, which are few and far between.
Keep in mind a congressional district isn't quite the same thing as a Fraternity. But don't let that stop you!
Well.... I will say my rep points here don't bode well. But I have ideas, and I hate the way things are run. I've been vocal with my issues, but I'm willing to let stuff go. Still worried about background though. My only hurdle to overcome, because everyone obviously will love me.
This would be the greatest thing ever. And we thought the Clutchfans wedding was cool? Imagine a Clutchfans government!
What issues are you focused on? How well versed are you in them? From reading your posts, you seem to be more passionate/knowledgable on state and local issues rather than federal ones - while not as glamourous, have you considered that route? You could probably have a bigger impact on the things you seem to care about the most. What district are you in? Who's the current rep? As for first steps - have you participated in any of the local GOP conventions and meetings? If not, you'll need to do that first. Building those relationships will be key if you're actually planning to run in a competitive or GOP district. If you're running in a solid Dem district, you may find it easier to run (but harder to win the general) because you won't have much competition within your party. Keep in mind also that everything you've ever posted here will be fair game in a campaign.
If you are indeed serious, Fatty, there's little chance you will ever win elected office, as you've mentioned your (presumably) actual name here, and it will be forever linked to all your posts over the years. Owing to your online persona, many of these do not portray you in the best light (and many of these were made while admittedly drunk, no?). That picture of you fondling the woman's breasts that pops up here from time to time is not much different than one which ultimately got John Sweeney voted out of Congress: It may not be fair to be judged by years-old random thoughts posted at 3am, but that's why most of us use aliases / fudge enough biographical details so that our online personae never interfere with real-world careers / aspirations.
