    Forewarning, TL;DR.

Need some help looking for a job for my 65 year old FIL. His last job was in 2010, where he worked 18 years as a warehouse supervisor (was laid off). Before that, he worked a few jobs and was working overseas before coming to the US. After the job in 2010, he hasn't looked for a job.....just been in semi-retirement.

A few months ago, we convinced my FIL and MIL to move from Florida to Texas. He put his house in Florida up for rent and is currently receiving rent. We helped get him a house here in Texas. I had told him at the time that the rent on that house will not cover the house in Texas and that he will have to find work (nothing big, but just something to keep him busy and $ to cover to get him even). He didn't take much to my advice because after 3 months, he's bored at home, fighting with my MIL and my deadbeat SIL, and charging everything on the credit card. Just a heads up, he's a stubborn, bitter old man that doesn't like listening to advice from young folk who are adults.

Unfortunately for me, the guy has been coddled his whole life by family and friends. He thinks it's old school where he can walk into any store, fill out an application, and then it will get submitted for an interview. Since has zero computer skills, he has no clue how to apply for a job. Now I've been given the task since he moved here to look for a job. I have applied everywhere for this guy and out of maybe 50 jobs I have applied for, he has had only 2 interviews, and didn't get anything. I already work full-time and gave this task to my wife and deadbeat SIL to look for him since I don't have time to look, but they have both failed. So now, I'm back to looking in whatever spare time I have, but don't know where else to look.

Anyone have any ideas? Anyone know of national temp agencies I can throw his name into?

Walmart greeter or Costco receipt checker. I think for Walmart greeter you have to be nice though.

I mean there are opportunities out there.

I really don't mean this in a derogatory way..but how about a store greeter? like at walmart?

    usually those are elderly people.

    no computers nothing needed.

    Lemon Party? ^
Yeah, I didn't get this reference either. It's the OP's son-in-law, or is the deadbeat the FIL's SIL?

It would be his sister-in-law, which would be the FIL's daughter, aka OP's wife's sister.

I read that as son-in-law at first as well, but realized that made no sense in relation to the story, so I assume it's sister-in-law.

To R2K, have you tried setting up a meeting with a staffing/temp agency like Burnett? Not that it's any help probably, but here's the link in case you wanted to do more research:

    http://burnettstaffing.com/

That's pretty much all I can offer on the subject. Good luck.

Given the fact he is 65, coupled with all of these traits, he is going to have a hard time finding a job.

    Good luck.

Okay, so this has nothing to do with your situation but it reminded me of what in going through right now. And i have to talk to someone else about it. My soon to be FIL is also jobless (laidoff) for 8 years now. He's had chronic back injuries so I can understand not having a job when you need to stand or anything, but this man literally lays in his recliner all day. My girlfriends mother is the only source of income at that house. They live a very mediocre life after living a very luxurious life only 10 years ago when we were just kids. They had two boats, 4-wheelers, Hell they even had an arcade in their game room. But that all ended after her father got laid off. He hasn't looked for a job once since I've been dating there daughter. I see the man everyday and he sits in his recliner in his family guy boxers and cutoff t shirt. He leaves the house once a week maybe. The mother works 630 am to 6 pm in downtown Houston monday-Saturday. She never gets any down time ever. The father doesn't pick up the house or anything. He makes my girlfriend do it and he tells the mom that HE cleaned the house and did the dishes and everything else. So when nothing gets done, he blames his daughter for not doing anything, when he can get off his ass and do it himself. What made me want to write this out is, my gfs 21st bday just came around and she was going to Louisiana to gamble with her aunt. Her parents, as a bday gift promised to give her money and that would be it. Her brother's 18th bday was only a month ago and he got a car, three new xbox games, and beats headphones. My gf only got $20 and that was as she was leaving for the casino. And the dad said if she came back with more than that, she owed him for everything he has given her. Coming from the man that hasn't earned one dollar in over 8 years really bothered the hell out of me. I ended up giving her $150 of my own money after I had already spent about $300 on her bday just days before.

I just really needed to vent.
