They should understand the situation before they take the job. We're open till midnight, people are going to come in at 11:55. DEAL WITH IT.
Ya that might the way it should be but good luck telling that to an 6 dollar an hour cook or cashier. It's not like these guys have alot of options.
Sorry to turn this D&D, but if you work in one of these places you're either really young and just trying to get some money or you're a complete moron.
I live further down Federal. I'm talking about at night (9:30 ish). They never have white meat and sometimes no chicken at all when I go. Maybe I just have bad luck.

I've been to a taco shop that had no cheese. "We'll run down to the grocery store and get some if you want to wait." Arrrrrgh. Why didn't you run down to the grocery store when you ran out of cheese? However, the worst one: A KFC is out of chicken. No, it's not that they didn't have any ready for sale. They were OUT OF CHICKEN! How is a KFC ever out of chicken? "Sir, we do have fries and beans." Arrrrrrgh!
And you expect "common sense" and "dedication to work" from these people? You're basically destroying your own argument here. Either they're "professionals" who truly do their job right, or they're morons whose only ability is taking orders at a fast food joint. Let's see you go make $5 an hour and see how "dedicated" and "professional" you are to the job. Look, you get what you pay for. Want better service? Go to a better place.
No. I pay for food, I get food. That's the deal. If the employee can't be bothered to do they're job properly, then they should be fired. Period. Sign says midnight, I expect a burger at 11:59pm. I worked at a movie theater slinging popcorn for ~$6 per hour. And you know what? I moved my butt promptly. I took care of my customers to the best of my ability, and I tried to get every order right. You know why? Because: 1. I have a work ethic. 2. I'd want the same treatment if I was the customer 3. If I didn't do my job, I'd get canned. Now managers can't do a thing about issue #1 and 2, but they sure can enforce issue #3. This is not an issue of poor/uneducated/young employees. This is an issue of piss-poor management.
I don't know about working at the movie theater. Is is a highly competitive place because of perks or something? Because if you work that hard for $6, you'd be the model employee at any fast food place. I've befriended some resturant managers from my old waitering days. And one of the biggest problem they have is finding quality workers. These people work on a budget too. The owners give them a salary to work with, and they try to find the best people who are willing to work for such a salary. And sometimes, guess what? They have to deal with slackers and semi-incompetent fools because they can't find anyone better for the price. Fast food joints offer minimum wage because they can get away with it. To the people who go there, price is the most important. That is, we'd put up with sh!tty service if it means our combo comes out to $4 instead of $5. If people who visit fast food places put a premium on service, these places would raise salary and hold their employees to a higher standard.
I'm 21 (just turned august 4th) Sadly I do work at a Taco Bell to help pay through school. I can get through college with scholarships but I go to aviation school also and have to pay all of it. I work at the one in Katy. Blame the company and not the workers We can easily take our time and be polite, we really want to and theres times where we say F-ck the system and we are. But we are graded not on hospitality but on time. If we don't get that order out in 60 seconds 60% of the time then a b****ing we hear from the company heads, not to mention the manager can be fired. It's a sad world I agree. Sure they don't want complaints but they want speed more instead of good service. Having people screaming in your ear in fear of their jobs makes it easy to forget to not add lettuce on that burger that you didn't want lettuce on. This fear of making time also causes that milkshake machine to 'break'. This is also the main reason why drive-thru people are rude, they want you to hurry up and gtfo so they don't get b****ed at. If it was my way, take your time and all smiles. The company needs the change of mind and stop saying customer service is their priority when it isn't, they hold us back. Closing early? Call in a complaint not to the actual place but to the number on the back of the receipt, the 'Heads' will surely b**** to the manager and it's a known fact that if you close early then your job is at stake. If you call to our number the manager at the time will say screw off.. but in a more polite way. How can we run out of Beans and Meat? Beans take 45 minutes of sitting in a heating oven cabinet 'cooking' before being allowed to serve. If its 30 minutes before close and the last batch just ran out, it is pointless to make a new batch that wont be done in time. Same goes for meat.. The Ground beef takes an hour in the thermalizer while Chicken, Steak, Spicy Chicken, Nacho Cheese takes 45 minutes as well. During the day we have 4 Pans of Beans and 4 Pans of already cooked beef sitting in the heating oven and 2 on each side of the line. It's alot but we have to go by the prep schedules, slow hours are from 3-6 in the summer so we prep for dinner at 5 to be fully stocked by 6. We rely on those 8 pans of each to last, if for some reason they don't then we aren't prepared anymore and will be out for a short while. Very rarely we get stormed by customers, we throw all the noobs and trainee's in the back prepping food since we have a time to make and they can get confused so its possible to run out of beef or beans, its rare but its possible and we are only out of it for 20 minutes or so. (also bear in mind that alot of not so bright and clumsy people work at fast food, if they accidentally drop a pan of beef or beans we cant pick it up and use it off the floor. If we are busy and some idiot wastes a pan, its 45 minutes of cooking to make up for it. Spit in food theory Come on now, it just doesn't happen anymore. Before I worked in fast food I was worried also, always checking my food, now that I have worked in it.. it just doesn't happen. People are more frustrated with their job at the time to worry about some ******* customer, we are in a rush. I've worked at all 3 TB's in Katy.. no one does it, no one could during the day either.. we have usually 2-3 managers at a time also 7-8 workers, 11 people. I wouldn't spit in someones food either, no matter what a dick they are. Not to mention usually the guys on line making the food are pissed thinking the cashier and order taker has it off easy, and get their kicks by hearing the customer be an ass to the guy. Bringing me to my last point What annoys me The guys who come through drive-thru b****ing at the guy on the microphone.. especially if he was nice to you before. If your order is screwed up, check your receipt and see if its rung up wrong, if its rung up right then he did his job correctly, ask to speak to the manager~ don't go crazy on the guy who was polite to you before while doing his best by ringing up your order correctly.. its not his fault he has to work with a bunch of dumbasses. I would love to hear someone on drive through ask to speak to the guys who made his food and then proceed to b**** at them. A note Never eat on Sundays, we can also run out of food easily on Sunday, its the last of whatever. Once its gone, our food is gone until the shipment comes in Monday mourning. So if you go through somewhere and they are out of something and its a Sunday.. It just means they were a lot busier then they expected that week and literally ran out of food. Any questions you want to ask about my sad sad sad and pitifully lame not to mention embarrassing job? I'm here to answer.
"The beverage machine is closed" asking for a refill at TGI Friday's at 11:45PM when they close at 1AM.
Good post; I appreciate the insight. Personally, all I ask for is courtesy. It doesn't bother me one bit if the staff is rushed. I understand that. One can be polite and still be in a hurry. It doesn't really bother me even if the order is wrong, so long as folks are cool about it and make it right. I'm a lot more inclined to blame an idiot customer for being an entitled ass than the staff at any restaurant, fast food or otherwise. Do unto others, and all that jazz. Its good stuff.
Where do you suggest these guys working? Why do you expect much from people that you think are so far below you?
When i worked at Wingstop, we would always run out of wings. We had to run to other Wing Stops and get wings from them. We would also run next door to Kroger and buy wings from them sometimes. We closed at Midnight but after about 3 months of working there, I realized people will always come in at 11:58. So I would always get home at like 2:30am because of the idiots that would come in late. But yea, I just had to deal with it, and make the best of it.
