China contracts aren't guaranteed any more so it's far from being a good deal as you think. If he has a slump or the team finds another foreigner they want to sign, he could be cut without prior warning any time, and without any compensation.
I'm betting Faried has major incentives, and not all that is guaranteed. But, as for no contracts being guaranteed, sounds like China recently adopted a standard contract like the NBA. The Uniform Player's Contract in the NBA is non-guaranteed. Players and teams negotiate how much guaranteed protection are in the contract. It's just custom for NBA contracts to have protection against "Lack of Skill"...which is the all-purpose right to cut a player. Maybe most Chinese players sign the standard contract to not have guarantees. But since it's custom for NBA contracts to add them in, I would think to coax a player to China, they'd insist on guarantees...maybe partially, maybe fully. Further, the CBA might copy the NBA and have a guarantee date, at which point all contracts become guaranteed for rest of season?
Never lived in China, but been to Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Gulin, etc and I can say China is pretty awesome place to visit. Much more fun than USA, especially since my $$$ goes a lot further than USA. You can live like a King with money. Just stay clear of the political crap and human right crap and it's awesome place to visit. Now if you're stupid like Morey and try to fight the Communist with their Human right issue, then China is a hell hole that you do not want to visit or live. It's great for people like me that like to live like a King!
I just came back from Beligum(Brussell) and there are a lot of homeless people and gyphsy begging next to 5 stars hotels. I didn't see the change can from one of the gypsy beggars and kicked his can by accident and he tried to kill me. Still, Western Europe is 100% better than S Holes like Detroit 8 miles or Skid Row Los Angeles. Lots of s holes in USA
You could visit and or live in a bunch of places in the world where your money goes just as far or further with much better scenery and things to do sans government censorship/strict regulations. Thailand and Vietnam easily come to mind. Bali is breathtaking and definitely lived like a King and then some for my 2 week visit.
According to several ex NBA players it sucks. They don't live in the tourist area of China they have to live in "there is so much smog I'd rather stay at home" part of China: https://www.si.com/nba/2019/06/27/c...mer-fredette-shabazz-muhammad-stephon-marbury
Yeah, you could live everywhere like a king. He probably referred to metropolises with modern skylines, but you’re right as well, if you are looking for resorts, beaches, lakes and comfy towns, those places you mentioned are dope.
I have lived in China and it was a **** hole. I did very much like a lot of the Chinese people though. There are some areas in the countryside that are beautiful. The government has really screwed up China though. It is worth a visit though if someone is curious. Also "human rights crap" is kind of a big deal.
The CBA has only 38 spots available for foreigners. The new standard CBA contracts are non guaranteed or only partially guaranteed with team incentives and there is a ton of turnovers.Even known ex nba players like Jefferson had only 10 games to prove themselves before they were cut. I don't think that the CBA has anymore to do much to coax a player to China. With so few roster spots, and so high salaries there is too much demand. Plus their season is over in February so there is a chance they can even sign with a D-league or NBA team. Here is the article that explains the situation: " Agents believe the reason there’s constant turnover among foreign players this season is due to the non-guaranteed and partially-guaranteed contracts that have become more common in China as of late. They feel that most teams wouldn’t constantly release imports if they had to pay each player their fully-guaranteed salary after waiving them, which they had to do until recently. What changed? The CBA introduced standard contracts for players, which created an opening for teams to start negotiating how much of the deals are guaranteed. “As of this year, there’s now a standard contract in effect in China,” one agent said. “In this standard contract, there are basically blank spaces throughout the contract that are filled in depending on the terms of the deal. The standard contract makes it easier for teams to sign players to a non-guaranteed contract. In the past, almost every contract signed in China was fully guaranteed. When you’d hear about a player getting cut in China – and it happens a lot – the player would still be entitled to all their money. Now, more and more players are signing a non-guaranteed or partially-guaranteed deal in China. That means if a player doesn’t put up crazy numbers, they may not get their money.”" https://hoopshype.com/2018/12/10/chinese-basketball-free-agents-negotiations-pierre-aaron-jackson/
This is the same for the NBA. The NBA standard contract (called, The Uniform Player Contract) has no guarantees. fwiw: I read that article prior to my last post. It clearly says the same thing that happens in the US, which is teams and players negotiate how much is guaranteed. If you think NBA contracts are guaranteed, and teams/players negotiate what is non-guaranteed ... you have it in reverse.
