Glad I missed the draft lotto. I'm assuming this is a serpentine draft? If so, #11 isn't that bad. Fantasy baseball is a game of depth, moreso than basketball or football.
Here is how things look so far. The Season We will play a 44 game season (two games per week -- Mon-Thurs, Fri-Sun) which will take us up to Sept. 5th. Game limits will be SP = 142 games, RP = 122 games, position players = 142 games per position, outfielders = 568 total (142*4). Playoffs Playoffs will start on September 6th. Game limits will be reset for the playoffs. Six teams will make the playoffs. Each division winner will get a bye. The playoffs will look like this: First round of playoffs (BYE for Div. Winners): Monday, Sept. 6 - Sunday, Sept. 12 (two game periods -- one complete week) Second round of playoffs: Monday, Sept. 13 - Sunday, Sept. 19 (two game periods -- one complete week) Our world series: Monday, Sept. 20 - Sunday, Oct. 3 (four game periods -- two complete weeks) For the teams that do not make the playoffs, and those who get knocked out in the first or second round, matchups will be arranged to determine the final standings. Lineups and Rosters There will be 24 players total per roster, plus 2 IR spots for injured players. For each game, teams will start: 1 C 1 1B 1 2B 1 3B 1 SS 1 UI (Utility Infielder.... C or 1B or 2B or 3B or SS) 4 OF 7 pitchers maximum (any combination of SP and RP......teams usually start 5 SP and 2 RP) The Draft The draft will start on March 5th. It will be slow live and will take place over the BBS (a draft thread will be made) and on the league site. You post your pick in the draft thread and then go to the league site and make your pick there too. The official time limit for each pick will be 12 hours. We haven't had to deal with someone running out of time as of yet. Draft etiquette --- if your pick is coming up and you're going to be away from your computer for a long period of time, it is common practice to leave a list either with me or someone else to make your pick for you, so that things won't be slowed down. If the 12 hour time limit runs out... I don't know... we've never had to deal with this situation before, so we'll decide what happens then (most likely a consensus pick made by the league... or maybe the team's pick will get skipped until they return to make it, like in the NFL). Also, if there is one person who constantly takes a huge amount of time to make each pick and never leaves a list with anyone, then measures might be taken to ratify the situation. However, I don't anticipate any of these problems and think that we will have a relatively smooth draft. Eligibility It takes 15 games for a player to become eligible at a position. Check the pos. eligib link on the league site to determine what position players will be eligible at going into the season (the numbers in bold). As soon as a player plays 15 games at a position this year, he gains eligibility for that position in addition to what he already had. Scoring The scoring system is on the league site under the "Rules" link. Clicking on the "Statistics" link will show you how many total points each player scored under our system last season. I hope that this answers any questions that people have.
Congrats on the new arrival, man. That's awesome! However, Behad is right. It would be easy to leave a small list of three players with him, me or someone else.
Thanks man. I'll try to get something together on Thursday. I may give one or two of you my cell number in case I'm not around for an extended period of time over that weekend, but only if it's approaching the final hour.
My suggestion for the unlikely event that someone is unable to make a pick within the time limit is to use the Yahoo automatic ranking system, and to give the person the Best Available Yahoo player. That way we can maintain absolute objectivity in making the decision. Plus, Yahoo rankings are notoriously questionable, so it might also serve as a form of punishment for missing the pick.
So 142 SPs and 44 games, that means on average that is 3.2 Starts a match-up and 122 RPs for 44 games which is 2.7 Relivers a match-up.... So playing 5 Starters will use up your limit up after 29 matches
Question about drafting (for the new owners info) What are the position drafting limits? Or are there any limits? Can I draft only 1 each infielders and stock up on pitching and OF? Or do I draft 2 at each infield position (10), at least 4 OF's (14) and 10 Pitchers (24)?
Not quite sure where you are going here. If you leave the same five starters and two relievers in all the time, and never change your lineup, you will run out of game limits roughly at the end of our season. Obviously, if you plan on swapping SPs in and out each week to always have five active pitchers for each game period, then you will run out of SP games much sooner, which isn't a very sound strategy at all.
I don't recall there being any positional roster limits last year, and see no need to introduce them this year. You can draft any combination of 24 players you want.
What can I say, I'm Old School. Give me a starter who finishes what he starts over some clown that comes in and throws 10 pitches anyday
just trying to get it right in my head so i don't fall into the same second half hole last season after starting too many pitchers for the first half of the season...
Hey dudes... FanStar is offering a free March Madness Pick'em League for active fantasy baseball commissioners. I thought that was pretty cool of them. Anyway, here is the pool site. Go ahead and create a bracket. http://www.fantasybaseballone.com/madness/site8248/
Important Note Guys. I just found out that I have to go out of town this weekend, so the draft will be pushed back to Monday evening, March 8th. It shouldn't be a big deal. I know that chrisjent wanted to draft later anyway, and Pimp was having issues with the 5th, so it's probably for the best. Again, I apologize for the inconvenience, but the new draft date will be Monday evening.
Attn: We have a trade. RocketsPimp trades picks #3 and #22 to PSJ for #1 and #24. Back to your regularly scheduled program.
