Just so I understand what is being proposed... The last game of the regular season is October 3rd (a Sunday). Here is how things will look if we go with Smeg's suggestion: First round of playoffs (BYE for Div. Winners): Monday, Sept. 6 - Sunday, Sept. 12 (two game periods -- one complete week) Second round of playoffs: Monday, Sept. 13 - Sunday, Sept. 19 (two game periods -- one complete week) Our world series: Monday, Sept. 20 - Sunday, Oct. 3 (four game periods -- two complete weeks)
There is one problem relating to a six-team playoff format that I think should be addressed, and that is game limits. Since two teams will have first round byes, that means that they will not be using up SP and RP games for a whole week. This will put them at a huge advantage later in the playoffs, since the teams without byes will be burning their pitching games left, right and center trying to make it to the second round. Do you guys think this is a big problem, or do the bye teams deserve this advantage for winning their division?
What about someone who plays the first 15 games of the upcoming season in a new position, do they are those 15 games become eligible for that position?
As much as I hate the 6 teams making the playoffs (what is this the freakin NHL?), if that's what everyone wants, fine by me. And as for the playoffs, no game limits
Of course. For instance, A-Rod starts this season as a shotstop. However, as soon as he plays 15 games at third base, he gains 3B eligibility as well.
The draft lotto is complete. Here are the results: #12. Summer Song Giver #11. SamCassell #10. BobFinn* #09. Castor27 #08. Chrisjent #07. DarkHorse #06. DVauthrin #05. Fadeaway #04. Behad #03. RocketsPimp #02. SmeggySmeg #01. PhiSlammaJamma Congrats Phi on getting the #1 pick!! How do you always manage to get such high picks all the time?
5th is fine with me, what are our draft rules?? (especially time limits) any other rules about the league we need to clear up before it starts
All things being equal I'd prefer to push back the draft some, to get a better sense of positional battles and avoid the season ending injuries that inevitably occur in the first weeks of spring training, i.e. my fourth round pick last year of Nevin, or whoever ends up picking Junior. If we were to push it back even two weeks, that'd give us two full weeks until the start of the season. If I'm remembering correctly, in the past we've only taken two weeks at the longest.
How can we determine a fixed number of games at that point? Reason being some teams/players will have played more games than others(ie. Team A played 150 games & Team B played 154 games). I suggest if we are knocking 2 weeks off the season to make the game limits a generous 154 games for field players and reducing SP games by 1 and RP games by 4.
That is going to be a very difficult day, actually weekend for me because the future point guard of the Rockets will be entering the world on the 5th. What about starting on the evening of the 4th or on the 6th?
I'm pretty much ready to go and know who I want. If someone in the top 5 picks wants A-Rod I'd be willing to make a conditional trade given that my player is still available when you pick. If my player isn't there just make your regular pick. If he is, I trade you A-rod. Asking price would be pretty flexible as you are only jumping a few spots to ensure A-Rod. Just make me an offer.
