Well if I was the ref that called Van Gundy, and I know I had no chance of not being implicated and losing my job.... I would put in my resignation, make a huge media event out of it including divulging some interesting tidbits of info that the public wants to know, then sign a book deal and write about the dirty little hierarchy of the NBA.

I'm sure he would make more than enough on book profits to multiply his salary 10 fold.

I thought it was hilarious when Stern indicated that JVG would have to co-operate. Co-operate with what?? This isn't a murder investigation.

This would never happen. Once he is banned JVG would be on every talk show spilling the beans on the NBA. Writing a book entitled "The NBA=WWF" or "How I got banned from the NBA and what they don't what you to know."

Les should have a talk with this ref friend of Jeff Van Gundy's. Let him know if he comes out and publicly backs JVG accusations that though he will most likely lose his job, he can come work for the Rockets and will be paid a great deal more than he is presently making.

Don't know how I had managed to double-post. Oh well.

I do feel bad for the ref that's implicated. Don't know if he knew beforehand that Jeff would repeat to the media what he had told him. With such a stink, I'm sure he's not too happy with Jeff.

JV, it was worth posting twice. I'll say this... if that is in fact on the website, and Van Gumby has anything remotely like a ban placed on him by Stern, I would file suit (were I JVG) to gain access to the records as evidence. Max, or some other legal beagle, could JVG do that?

Who knows what the contracts in the NBA look like, but based on the amount of money at stake here... Just going ONE more series in the playoffs generates tons of additional ticket, food, and souvenier revenue. Not to mention the increased national (and for the Rockets, international) exposure. It would be well worth the Rockets effort to sue the NBA over cheating.

even if they are physically erased/deleted, there are ways of recovering files. the guys in the forensic data field are real slick and crafty. the only way stern could get rid of the evidence is to switch hard drives or burn it, but that would definitely be a sign of serious shadiness and wrongdoing...

Im sure they would do some nice creative things to get rid of what was said on the site before they every opened it up if they ever did of course.
