I don't understand why people keep saying this is a mediocre team?!?!

    Dictionary.com describes mediocre as:

    –adjective
    1.
of only ordinary or moderate quality; neither good nor bad; barely adequate.
    2.
    rather poor or inferior.

The Rockets aren't up to .500 so they therefore can't be barely adequate because right now they are not winning.

    It's not that hard people.

I have been warning about this for a long time. It was my fear when we decided to go the direction we did - that we'd get stuck in no-man's land.

    That's where we are.

We have two choices, find a way to make a deal for big name players, or blow this thing up and suck until we get lucky iin the draft. That could take one year. It could take 5 years. It could take longer. But probably not as long as being in no-man's land.

The other route is pretty bleak. There are no players who we could acquire that would change our fortune.

Sadly, the only way this team could be competitive next year is if Yao returns by some miracle. And JVG returned. And brought T-mac back with him.

Ain't going to happen, not with the fans we have here.

Not one bit. It's only frustrating when you put expectations on the mediocrity to outperform itself on a consistent basis. For if there is no expectation there is no reason to get frustrated. Every win is a plus, every lost there is something that can be learned from, applied, & continue developing our core. Whatever are core is. Ha!

Now on the other hand I love the Knicks not a fan but a follower. Knowing what they are capable of & seeing them not produce has to be frustrating. However I'm not a fan so I have no expectation therefore it doesn't bother me, ask a Knicks fan how frustrated they are. They'll probably have HiGH blood pressure & be on the verge of......

The solution to your frustration. Competitive or not. I mean when I hoop at 24 & I'm stuck with a sub par squad. I don't expect to win I still give my best effort if not over exert myself, however if we lose I'm cool. Knowing that competition understands it's not going to be a blowout win (if they win at all).

The only expectation you should have with this team is that they go out every night & compete. If it results as a win great, if not oh well. As I have said once before McHale is restructuring the mentality of the team to do this every night without fail. Even if the shots aren't falling, the defense is there, the boxing out is there, the turnovers are minimal, loose balls oppurtunities are seized. If you don't believe that McHale isn't demanding that of his players apparently you didn't watch our last game. Jeff Adrien anyone?

I'd rather be a fan of a mediocre team with a lot of pieces, than bottom dweller. The Rockets won't win the championship this year, but they can compete every night. People dream about getting that high draft pick, but most lottery picks end up mediocre or even as busts. Washington must be loving that John Wall pick, right? And while the Clippers have recently become respectable because they lucked into Griffin and Chris Paul, they basically sucked for several decades straight.

Was with you until you knocked the Wizards for drafting John Wall. Because they definitely aren't simply loving that pick they are in love with that pick. John Wall is a force apparently you didn't watch him single handily keep the Wiz in the two games they played the Rockets. Apparently.

You know who absolutely LOVES their mediocre team right now?

    Minnesota fans.

The night they beat us to get to .500, they were all over the ESPN chat bangin their chests acting like they were ready to take on Miami or something.

    Its all in perception.

Minnesota fans are (rightly) happy to be supporting a team that is mediocre right now because for years they have been a doormat. After all those years, .500 sounds pretty good.

Houston fans are frustrated with mediocrity because we've been on the fringe for the better part of a 1.5 decades...with the promise of greatness always an injury away.

And now we are perceived as a franchise in rebuilding mode...something we really haven't seen here for more than 30 years.

We are spoiled a bit by our past. We are a franchise used to contending. Now, we really aren't. And its hard to see a light at the end of the tunnel now.

I agree with this 100%! SPOILED! Half the people on this site have the opinion that if we arent gonna win the championship, then we should tank... jus a bunch of crybaby whiners... "Ohhhh we're stuck on a treadmll of mediocrity, poor us......" Shut up and suck it up! Sometimes yer the windshield, sometimes yer the fly - deal with it! And all about a team who's consistantly over .500.... jus spoiled...

If you call yourself a 'fan', you gotta ride with the up and down of your team. Period.

It's very hard to win a championship. But you see more and more teams are building "winning" teams with a collection of really good players (Indy, Philly, Atl...). I think the organization sees this and thinks the same way.

It is what it is. It's best if the organization chooses a direction, but either direction isn't going to guarantee a franchise player in the form of a draft pick or the ceiling of the Sixers-type of team.

Morey is just going to continue to stay the course and pray for that ultimate trade.
