20 PPG is a big thing in NBA.
Kevin Martin is also a big name in NBA.

Vintage Shane Battier was amazing. I don't regret the trade a whole lot tbh.

I never denied that he was a good player, rather that the trade wasn't that bad. Jefferson was clearly better than either one of them, but its not like we would have been contenders with RJ. James Posey was no allstar, but at least he didn't demand near max money like RJ did. At the time Dawson was the GM of the rockets and probably would have given Jefferson a crazy deal in 2004 similar to the extension he is current playing under. On a pure talent standpoint, Griffin could have been even better than all of them.

We also wouldn't have gotten Battier if we had Jefferson, however you want to view that as. I see that as a positive, because Battier had some productive years as a Rocket where he affected winning a great deal. We can't really predict how things would have gone with Jefferson as a Rocket. Maybe he scores way less around better talent, and we never make the McGrady trade. Personally, I've always thought his stats were inflated, and I don't think he can adjust to a slower paced team.

NBA GMs shouldn't pay Martin or someone like Rip Hamilton 15 mil a year either.

Another misconception - New Jersey pace wasn't particularly fast, they were 15th through 21st in the league in Pace during his best seasons.

    Sigh, this again.

Rudy Gay is a marginal NBA player making an absurd amount of money. He will never put an average team over the top, he will simply exist in the NBA, make a few dunk highlights every so often, and eventually fade away into obscurity as untapped potential.

The Grizzlies had a 50 win team and wanted Gay to help facilitate rebuilding. They never rebuilt into anything nearly as good as they were with Battier/Gasol in Gays tenure. He will bolt in the offseason to any team willing to pay him max, or the Grizz will retain him at a ridiculous price and stay locked into mediocraty forever. So tell me again why it was such a great trade?

Rockets make that trade any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Real talents should be and always be overpaid.
This league is full of overpaid players. Most of them are great players.
In fact, Battier is overpaid. Yao is overpaid too.

Being overpaid is not a player's defect, fault, shortcoming, or something should be prohibited.

On the other hand, I think Battier for Gay was one of our best trades on draft day ever. I would do that trade all over again.

I'm not saying 15 mm/maximum would be overpaying Gay with respect to a man on the street doing charity work , I'm saying that it would be an incredibly inefficient use of cap space to give him that much money given the impact he has on the floor, which consists of scoring nad pretty much nothing else. (don't tell me he's a good shotblocker, btw. HE had 64 blocks last year. to put that in perspective, ground-bound Luis Scola had 56).

Was Eddie Griffin alive when this article was written? Cause if not, that's disrespectful.

Yes he was, I don't see how it would be disrespectful anyway.

Well gee, I'm not sure what that makes the other 95% of the league that doesn't average 20/6. Think about what you wrote. It wasn't very intelligent.
