Didn't somebody say that Battier reads the scouting report every game, but most players don't bother.
As has been said, Morey's scouting reports tend to be huge as hell. I'm sure Adelman takes some into consideration, and disregard others. That's kind of normal. Considering Morey hired Adelman in the first place, I'm sure he knows who he has in the coach. As for Yao's minutes, his minutes were controlled quite a bit in Adelman's time here. Even if he does tend to overplay Yao at times, I feel that's more about just a coach wanting to win, which happens to every coach in the NBA except maybe Pop. The Spurs really are the only team which prioritize limiting minutes above even winning. So I don't feel it's a problem as long as Adelman has good reasons to ignore certain advices, whether they be impossible to implement, or they don't as well in practice as in theory. Regardless, Morey does ultimately have the final say, given that he can control the roster. If he wants things done a certain way, he can always obtain players that play the way he wants.
LOL at RA, he seems to be getting crankier every year. He has so many complaints this year: announcing Yao's 24 minutes, the schedule of the China games, our back-to-back openers in the west coast, etc. I'm sure the players are excited about a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play in China with Yao but he is just the spoilsport. Maybe he's using that to get his players' attention to stay focused. It can be an advantage--to show the players to aspire for greater heights.
Yeah, uh no they aren't.....I am sure the players are pissed that they have to travel 26 hours on a plane and then come back and start the regular season against the Lakers. DD
Experimenting on the impact of increased usage rates for previously low usage, but efficient players?
I take everything in the media with a grain of salt, especially when it's two writers that I've never heard of before. Looking at their previous articles on Fanhouse, it seems that this is their first Rockets-related article they've ever written. All that being said, I doubt any coach follows the scouting reports 100%. Like durvasa said, I think the assistant coaches are largely responsible for pre-game planning while Adleman makes the in-game decisions and adjustments.
OK, thanks (and to the poster who gave his thoughts on the previous page). I can understand that but what threw me off was the sentence leading to that one. He basically says Morey + Adelman is a bad fit and says that is partly why he thinks this may have been an experiment. That's the connection I was having trouble making. If in fact Morey was doing that experiment, what does it have to do with everything he's talking about in the beginning of the paragraph? Basically, what would experimenting with Ariza's increased usage have to do with Morey and Adelman not being a good mix and Adelman not using detailed scouting reports. It seems like 2 different ideas.
