I forgot to mention I saw Horace Grant at a Golden Corral in Orlando. Looked like he was with a youth group or something.
I met George Bush Sr. and a half dozen of his bodyguards/Secret Service detail at Oshmans in the Fountains about ten years ago.
Bob Knight at Zookini's in Lubbock. He was having lunch with some people from the Tech Athletic Dept. I've had dinner with G. Gordon Liddy and Michael Reagan on separate occasions. Interesting people.
I saw Craig Biggio at Magiaon's on Post Oak. I saw Jeff Bagwell at Nit Noi (not the one in the Village). I rode my bike past Rudy T (who was also riding a bike with someone who was jogging) in River Oaks. I also saw Rudy T. at Mission Burrito once. In Athens, GA I was in a coffee shop when the lead singer for the B-52's walked in. I think his name was Fred Schneider?
In Houston, I used to see the Rockets at Bennigans on Kirby back in the 90s. They would go there after games. Why there, I have no idea why... Sat next to Mario Elie at the sushi bar at Miakos. Bagwell at Vargos. In NYC, seen a bunch: Malcolm Gladwell (Blink, The Tipping Point) at a sushi joint in Chelsea. David Schwimmer at Les Halles a month ago. Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, and their two teenage kids at a place called Josies in the Upper West Side Three of the NY Giants offensive linemen at a BBQ joint called Brother Jimmy's - they were drinking pitchers like glasses...it was a bachelor party for someone.
Matt Maloney I saw him at Houstons back in the day, he went into the restroom and I followed him in, when I got inside, he wasn't there. Kenny Smith Saw him at Sweetwater Country Club way back in the day. Vernon Maxwell Saw him at a BMW dealership. Jean Claude Van Dam Saw him at the Hong Kong airport not too long ago. Jeff Goldblum (Yes, THE Jeff Goldblum) Saw him at a hotel parking lot in Hong Kong as well. I saw Derrick Johnson lastnight at D&B in Austin.
I saw the huge dude lifting weights at 24 Fitness in Sugar Land several years ago. I walked over to him and it was Shaq who was wearing a Rockets practice jersey (I think he was a Laker at the time). Hakeem was in a jaccuzi in a fitness/rehab center in Sugar Land 12-13 yrs ago watching my then 5 year old son taking swimming lessons in the adjacent pool. He was just laying there watching my son swim back and forth.
I saw Cheap Trick while eating at a whataburger at South Padre during a track meet when I was in Jr High.
Dude, come on people. Only one Matt Maloney report? Matt Maloney is every where. Matt Maloney is the only "famous" person requiring the no picture, no proof designation.
that's the best one yet...lol. let's see i have seen a good amount of athletes. but the best memory i had was when i was about 8 or so and i was with my parents at bobby valentine's restaurant in arlington. i had just come back from a card show where i gotten like 5,6 players autographs including one of juan gonzalez (he was one of my favorite players). so after we leave from the show, we go to bobby v's and low and behold there's juan sitting with a bunch of buddy's in the back of the restaurant. i didn't have anything for him to sign, but he told one of the people working there to get a baseball card out of a display case, and he signed it for me. -i've also ran into jay buhner at the arlington marriott. -mary lou retton at houston hobby airport IIRC -met george w. bush about 4 times at the texas governor's mansion for the annual christmas ball (really nice guy, my father and i talked sports to him for about 10 minutes one time before laura told him jokingly that there were other people at the party) -others but i can't remember right now.
I worked at a Burger King in the Denver area in high school and John Elway, LaPhonso Ellis, and Scott Hastings either came through the drive-thru or ate in the restaurant. I also (literally) ran into Phonz at a Blockbuster while in high school. That wasn't long after one of his many knee surgeries, and I was scared to death for a moment that I had hurt him and set his rehab back a few months. I currently tend bar and serve at an Olive Garden in the Dallas area and over the past few years I've waited on Larry Allen, Dat Nguyen, Derek Ross, Ron Stone, Richie Anderson, and Randal Williams.
I serverd Carl Herrera and his woman several drinks when I bartended at Dave and Busters a little more than ten years ago. I also served Anthony Edwards when I worked in Nacogdoches (what the hell he was doing there, I have no idea). I sat about three feet from Dennis Quaid, his kids, and a hot young nanny at the restaurant at Chico Hot Springs in Montana a few years back. Last weekend when I was in NYC, I stayed at the hotel with a bad back, a remote control and REALLY bad TV while my wife, mother-in-law, and nephew went to Mesa Grill without me. Bobby Flay came by and chatted with them. Oh well.......at least I got fried chicken and waffles at Amy Ruths the next day.
Craig Biggio and (late) Ken Caminiti -both with gf's (or wives--never looked into it) at dinner. Was so long ago that I don't remember the restaurant Cuttino Mobley -Bennigan's by The Summit after a game (1st game against the Blazers after they got Pippen) (late) Jason Collier -IHOP in Sugar Land after a game (Hornets Xmas time) Luke Wilson -Hula Hut in Austin
Saw Cameron Diaz, Vince Vaughn, and Dennis Rodman various times in Vegas. Bagwell at Sullivans. Mickey Mantle at Pappasitos. also, a friend of a friend was the one serving Rudy T the night he got busted.
The thread title asks for famous people you've seen at restaurants. If I ignored this part, I would start naming all the famous people I have seen at strip clubs.
