Random people I’ve gotten to meet over the years playing with my current band:

    Randy Travis (and his band)
The O’Jays (they are total divas)
The Pointer Sisters (well...just their band...they were out the door before the band even stopped playing their last song...)
Robert Earl Keen (just as nice and laid-back as you would expect)
Asleep at the Wheel (totally cool guys, no egos whatsoever)
    RuPaul (yes, seriously)
Mario Williams (held the door open for me while moving my gear at Reliant)
Lucy Noland (absolutely GORGEOUS...even hotter in person than on TV...She is to me what Vanessa Hudgens is to Kam...)
Mayor Bill White (super nice guy)

    And.....

Barack Obama! He thanked us by name in his Houston campaign speech and posed for a pic with us afterwards. Regardless of how you feel about his politics, how many people can say they met the President? Pretty damn cool.

Sam Beam of Iron & Wine - Had him sign my wallet after his Rudyard's show...I had nothing else for him to sign.

Colin Meloy of the Decemberists - Talked to him for a few minutes, told him he didn't come off like the snob everyone said he was.

Zach Galifianakis - Told him I loved Late World, for the five weeks it was on. He yelled at me, "It was on for six weeks!"

Briefly talked to Fiery Furnaces after a couple of shows.

The drummer from Stars - I think I bought him a beer.

Some guy in Beulah after a show.

I posted a thread in the GARM with me and Jeff Van Gundy, who I ran into at Beaver's Ice House. He looks miserable in the picture.

I also met Bill Clinton a few years back. It was pretty freaking sweet.

Brian May from Queen in a Vegas bar. Walked over from his band/entourage and hung out with us for 10 minutes then put us on the guest list for the Vegas show he was doing at the time. Totally down to earth and you'd have no idea who he was, except he still looks like a dude from a 70's rock band and pretty tall.

Brief encounter with Susan Sarandon at Spin NYC. Nice, cordial, but appeared weary because of other star gazers. I know one of the top players so I had a brief intro. You can probably catch her there many Friday nights.

Some minor pop stars who have had a hit here and there. Ran into them at some South Beach clubs from time to time. Not worth mentioning (ie Nina Sky, which I had to look that up just now, that's how unmemorable they are). Strangely I've been approached and asked 'hey you're famous right?' a few times. What?

And many of the 'biggest stars' in drum & bass, but again, I doubt anyone here would know or care if I mentioned their names.

Met James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem fame. They had a concert at the Verizon Theater (in Houston), and I got there about 2 hours beforehand and he was just sitting outside the hard rock cafe next door, having a beer with his bandmates and friends. I didn't bother him until after he got up.

Met two guys from Cage the Elephant at a music festival. Also met most of the Whigs there.

Met Roy Oswalt and Vince Young at autograph signings.

Met Davy Arnaud of the Kansas City Wizards (And I believe he is on the USA National team) a few times because he was the uncle of my good friend and lives around here in the off-season.

I can't think of anything else.

Does he have any bball skills? I used to work out at that location for over 10 years until I switched to LA Fitness but over the years I've seen Andre Agassi, Shawn Kemp, John Norris, TJ Ford, Royal Ivey and Shaq working out there.

Not sure, as I apparently got just there after he finished playing for the night. But, he was with a group of guys who were still playing and they were dominating - more so with size and athleticism than basketball skill - though there was this one guy (White/Hispanic/Italian?) who clearly must have played in college based on how he was moving with the ball out there.

I used to live down the street from Cheryl Swoops. Saw her around, but never actually met her.
