i never waste food, in fact some times i actually have to force myself to fnish my plate cause i realize there are starving people around the world. i have been to buffets and seen people like that pig of a woman and her family. it makes me sick, bet u they own a double wide.
the idea of paying $20 for raw fish sounds horrible to me, I'll gladly take my sushi on the cheap buffet.
Thanks. My brother only knew the kid slightly, but still that kind of stuff shouldn't happen anywhere. My town is a town that's dying, everytime I go back I see less and less of what I used to love about it there. Jobs are disapearing, the bars are always full and the kids have nothing to do. I think that lends a hand to it. Back to berating slovenly Iowans and their misbehaved kids.
Everytime when I go out to eat, I hate seeing people wasting food. Send them to Africa, and they will know how valuable food is to them, they never understand the fact that million and million of people around the world don't have enough food to feed their family, it's a shame to see them wasting food, and it's disgusted to see them doing this intentionally.
I agree with the restaurant's actions, however I think this idea would have been a more appropriate response. Based on the story, it seems the staff passively observed the family during their visits, and then without warning confronted them and told them to leave. They should first have signage, then they should have warned them if this was habitual behavior. Then if they continued to waste food ask them to leave. I usually have food leftover when I visit buffets, either because I'm full or don't want to eat the rest of a particular item. But I always try to waste as little food as possible.
I hasve seen tuna sashimi at one buffet place. But they dont have they baked shrimp I love at the one by my house.
Dump it in the miso.... I usually dump food that doesn't taste right or some of the rice on sushi. This seems overboard. It's like that family has some royalty complex taken out on a six dollar buffet.
I glad they threw that wasteful hog out of there, hopefully it'll give the kids an embarrassing memory to learn from. On a side note, if something like this happened to me, I won't go to the newpaper, I'd never freaking mention it to no one, these people have no shame
There are a couple that taste pretty good. Though you usually spend more money on the buffet than if you would just order a couple of rolls.
You guys should try taking three teenage kids to a chinese buffet....I'm surprised my family has never been kicked out for the amount of food we eat! We get our money's worth. Anybody ever see Louis Anderson's bit on eating at a chinese buffet? Hilarious!
Judging by that womans personality, she and her family would probally waste more food just to piss them off.
This story kind of hits close to home. I am a manager at a chinese restaurant here in Brazoria County and we offer a daily lunch and dinner buffet. I have seen many families like the ones in the story waste A LOT of food. It has always irritated me but I have never gotten the courage to say anything because I don't want to come off as "rude" and I also don't want to lose customers. I just wanted to get some opinions on some things....some of them don't necessarily relate to the story but I wanted to gather some opinions on chinese buffets in general. --- 1. When it comes to the price, how much is too much for a buffet? Our restaurant is fairly small. The dining area is the size of a typical fast food restaurant. We offer around 25-30 items on the buffet plus a salad/dessert bar. We recently went up on the price. Our current price is $6.50 for Lunch (old price-6.25) and $7.50 for Dinner (old price-7.25). Beverages are $1.50 (old price-1.25) including free refills. People constantly rave about the food but I sometimes receive complaints that our prices are way too high. This is just me but when I go out to eat I don't have a problem with paying $10-11, especially at an all-you-can-eat buffet. Anything less than $10 is a reasonable buffet price. Are those customers right? Is $9.00 (including drinks) too much for a dinner buffet? By the way, I didn't state it earlier but our price range for children is: 3-5 years old: $3.45 4-8: $4.45 9-12: $5.45 (Drinks are free.) 2. Especially in Chinese cuisine, why do people go to buffets rather than a casual dining restaurant? This especially happens in my town. Last year, we took off the dinner buffet because we weren't making any profit in the evening. It was either go up the price on the buffet or offer menu orders only during the dinner time. We chose the latter. The first day it happened, people literally freaked out. Our loyal customers understood and happily ordered of our menu (actually, all of the menu first-timers said they loved it more than the buffet), and some were fuming mad and said they will drive 20 miles away to the closest chinese restaurant that offers a buffet. Our menu is reasonably priced. This rarely happens with Mexican, Tex-Mex & Italian restaurants. Why does this seem to happen with Chinese places? ---- I appreciate the answers, guys. Thanks in advance. Michael
Your adult prices are good but your children's prices may be a little high compared to what I am used to.
Variety. When I eat at a buffet that is why I am going to a buffet, the variety of different foods and not having to deal with a meal and two sides.
1. I think $7.50 is kind of high, then again I never eat chinese buffet because I think their all gross. Only chinese buffet I like is Woodlands house, but I've only been there twice. 2. All-you-can-eat-or-waste.
Man, I love how there is authentic Chinese French Fries, and Mac n cheese at the buffet. I usually start with fried rice, pepper steak, and green beans. Then after that, I eat whatever I feel like. I may get one or two items from the sushi bar, but not often. The only two buffets I go to is Woodlands House or something like that on FM1960, and China Bear on 45 near airtex? i think. That place is like 10 bucks man.
