I've been a Family Guy backer since Season 1. Was vehemently opposed to Fox canceling the show and rejoiced when they restarted it years later. I got seasons 1 and 2 on DVD also...
..And even I GOT tired of the Family Guy formula.

There's some areas about the show that are underrated. There's some smart-assed comments from the characters between the flashbacks that is plenty witty. I also think the show is good when 2 characters are quarreling over something and the dialog keeps going and going and they try to out argue each other. It CAN make an area of everyday living in its over-the-top way a semi-believable occurrence now and then (examples: Caveman husband and wife arguing and Stewie teasing Brian about Brian's "story" he's been working on).

I'll go with Family Guy just cuz I haven't watched Seinfeld as much, though I find Seinfeld plenty humorous (& Friends NOT). American Dad isn't as laugh out loud funny but its a much better "show" than Family Guy.

Family Guy is definetly funnier than Simpsons (although simpsons isn't funny anymore). But it's different than Seinfeld. FG gets off on being funny off of random jokes or 80's references, because the plots generally aren't that funny.

Seinfeld actually has funny plots with a big payoff at the end with pretty funny quips in the middle, but nothing shocking, random or crazy. I think shocking humor, at least for me, tends to be funnier, whereas seinfeld had situational humor which is funny, but is a chuckle instead of a LOL.

In terms of most good jokes per minute, I still contend that Arrested Development had the most, it had the randomness shock value that FG had, short little situational quips like FG, it rewarded long time viewers with hilarious inside jokes (like seinfeld again), and the stories were some of the best ever. It's the only comedy show that feels like its longer than half an hour because it is so damn funny.

Tobias' gay running joke has to be the funniest damn thing i've ever seen. I agree 100% that AD's laugh-a-minute rate for seasons 1&2 and the first half of season 3 are untouchable.

Seinfeld is still the greatest, other comedies start to fall off after a few seasons, Seinfeld kept getting stronger and only dropped off in the last season, thankfully, Jerry knew to call it quits before the show really hit rock bottom.

i voted for about the same. i probably tend to enjoy family guy more but seinfeld has really strong points and is undeniably great. i don't have a problem watching either.

that's true. except for the first 4 hours of season 4, i had never tried watching 24 before this season. for some reason i was pretty much already committed to watching the whole season even before i saw how awesome the first 4 hours were. but after the first 4 hours i decided to start watching the old seasons on a&e and it's so nice to get a show per day. i can build up for 3 or 4 days and then just fly through 4 hours, with the previous hour always getting me hyped for the next one.

with the current season, you always just think "crap, another whole week until another one" so i think it does somewhat hurt the excitement factor. between all the a&e episodes and seasons i've seen recently it sometimes takes a while to remember where we left off and to get back into it when i watch the new ones each week.

i have absolutely loved this show and had it been as good this season and next as the first 5 i would have put it right up there with the simpsons and cheers as my favorite shows ever, but the 2nd half of this season has disappointed so it might have to remain 3rd all time. still, the first 5 seasons were just brilliant.

only Cheers got stronger the entire time before only falling off in the last season. seinfeld started to slip with at least 2 years ago. so much of it just became yelling instead of actual jokes.
