I wonder if someone is just starting an evil rumor (because I imagined this same trade a week ago) but the trade exception would make it work. JVG does recognize we need some size at the 3. Still, it might also involve sending out a minor player like A-Griff or Pike. We might also squeeze a future first-rounder from Milwaukee. Steve would be a big draw in Milwaukee. Gawd. From Houston to Milwaukee? Buy a really, really heavy coat, Steve. And buy a PJ Carlesimo Survival Kit, JVG. Probably just a jacked-up rumor anyway.
i have to say... isn't there a rule where you don't trade your best player unless you get the other team's best player in return? i'm not sure i'd trade francis for tim thomas and tj ford, who might be good but is just a rookie! but if you can throw in mobley and then get redd back (which i doubt they'd do) that would be awesome because then you get a pure shooter to stretch the defense when you post up yao. yao MoT Thomas / Nachbar (i'm still not that high on thomas) Redd Ford see that's a really good team!
Why would we trade Steve for one of the few players in the league who actually shoot worse than him? (TJ Ford) And Tim Thomas is a decent enough role player, but it seems unlikely he'll ever make the jump to be anything better. And yet, at the same time, I would think this trade might do wonders to revitilize the Rockets, even if it isn't the best trade we could make. That says alot about the state of the Rockets. A bit sad really.
How the hell is Tim Thomas worth Steve Francis? Watch out Rocket fans. CD is about to screw up again! Raven
The Hinrich and Chandler proposal sounds better and that's with Chandler's back problems. If you think Thomas is ineffective in the East, wait till he gets here where the trees roam.
Is the next Super Bowl in Milwaukee next year? If so, then maybe it was Franchise himself who started the rumor.
Well, I may be alone here, but I think Maurice Taylor could average 16 to 18 points a game if given starter minutes. Yao and Cat should be able to add another 18 points each as they take a greater role in the offense. Jim Jackson looks like he’s finally found his niche in the offense. Tim Thomas averages 14.5 points per game. Plus, TJ Ford has helped orchestrate one of the top offenses in the NBA with the Milwaukee Bucks and if you look at their roster, they don’t have nearly the number of weapons the Rockets do. That said, it's still a very risky move and the Rockets should first talk with Steve first and see if he's regretful for his mistake and if he’s ready to re-dedicate himself to this team before making any huge decisions.
I just went and looked at the stats, and those guys are not nearly enough for SF. My god, is CD really this stupid. If this trade goes down, it will come to be known as the Rockets ass rape of 2004.... Raven
I acquiesce to your plea for a sense of humor. To make salaries match, Boki or Pike is going with Francis. So how about..... Francis + Nachbar + ~$1.5m TE for Ford + Redd + Kucoc.
I'm all for this if it is possible... in fact I proposed almost the exact trade in my "Brains for Points" thread a while back. TJ Ford would be a dream to have running the offense. We would instantly become a fantastic running team. We would also see a decrease in turnovers. Look no further than Austin to see the impact TJ can have on a team. UT is still a decent team this year, but not nearly as smooth and collected as it was last year. I can't imagine them making it to the Final Four, despite the fact that the rest of the roster is the same, but more experienced. The Chronicle also has an article today about TJ working hard to improve his shot this year. I don't see why he won't become a better scorer and shooter in time... especially when he could benefit from better players around him.
