If Kurt Warner wins the Superbowl this year, maybe God *does* take sides in sports. It's hard to explain the Cardinals any other way!

Couldn't it be construed that by pointing heavenward after a success that the kicker is thanking God and that by not pointing heavenward after a failure, the kicker is taking personal blame?

By the same token, when an athlete praises God for a win, they are acknowledging that (in their personal view) all good thing come from God and by not blaming Him for a loss, they are acknowledging personal failure.

Ben Roethlisburger said God is good after the Steelers won so who does God pick?

Malcolm X once said, "All successes are Allah's. All failures are mine." I can understand that from a pious point of view but I think that is giving an omnipotent being a pass. A lot of factors can go into missing a field goal including a sudden wind gust. Something like that is beyond the kicker's control so as a limited human does he then take responsiblity for something that would be better attributed to an act of God?

God has no power over any sporting event, nor did he give any individual (i.e. tim tebow) the ability to play. If god had the power to do this, than he would have the power to save the starving children in africa. If that were the case then god would just be a huge *******.

Is there any difference between a player thanking God and one who does superstitious act?
