Thanks for the feedback so far. I think moving to a simpler SP/RP system is for the best. With my new job, I just don't think I have the time anymore to do it the old way. I think it is better to offer a choice of 5 SP/2 RP or 4 SP/3 RP each week rather than go with a strict 5 SP/2 RP all the time in order to offer some lineup flexibility. Also, as PSJ suggested, I will expand overall roster size from 28 players to 30 players total in order to make it easier for people to have enough pitchers. As for a trade deadline, sure, that's probably a good idea. I will have a look at the MLB schedule and come up with a suitable date. Guys, I know it is a bit of a rush, but I would like to start the draft this weekend or early next week at the latest so... (i) Start thinking about your keepers and getting them declared. (ii) Feel free to make any pre-draft trades in order to improve or solidify your keepers. (iii) Make sure to PayPal me your league fee. It looks like RedNation is going to fill the open team. Welcome!!
I am re-posting our league rules for RedNation's sake: League Site http://www.fantasybaseballsite.com/baseball/clutchcity/ League Fee Everyone chips in $7.40 each USD via PayPal to joshgillard@hotmail.com Draft The draft will tentatively start March 17th. It will be slow live with an initial timer of 6 hours per pick. Draft order is determined by schoolyard pick, with last year's worst-finishing team having first choice of draft position, progressing down the line, and last year's champion automatically getting the last chosen available position at the end. Keepers There are 7 keeper slots. In order to be placed into a keeper slot, the number of times a player has been kept must be lower than the listed max number for each slot. Keeper Format: Slot A (indefinite) Slot B (4 max) Slot C (4 max) Slot D (3 max) Slot E (3 max) Slot F (2 max) Slot G (2 max) Keeper numbers for each player roll over as soon as the draft starts. Therefore, each player's keeper number must be below the listed max number going into the draft. Keeper Declaration Deadline Keepers must be formally declared by March 16th (the day before the draft starts). You are encouraged to declare them early -- you will have up until March 16th to change your mind. If keepers are not declared by March 16th, then I will declare them for you using my own judgment when I set up the draft. Trading Trading is encouraged, and draft picks may be included in trades. The only rule with trading draft picks is that the # of picks sent back and forth must be even (I.e. I can trade my 3rd and 4th round picks in exchange for someone's 1st and 7th round picks, but I cannot trade my 3rd and 4th round picks for someone's 1st round pick only). Trading a player resets that player's keeper number to zero. Trading is currently open now, and some teams are going to have to trade a player or two in exchange for something, or else release some good players back into the draft pool for nothing. Scoring The scoring system is fantasy points head-to-head. This scoring system is similar to most fantasy football leagues, and is much better than the crappy roto-based scoring used in most fantasy baseball leagues. Hitting Hits: 1 point Runs: 1 point Doubles: 1 point Triples: 2 points Home Runs: 3 points RBIs: 1 point Stolen Bases: 2 points Caught Stealing: -1point Walks: 1 point Strikeouts: -1 point Errors: -1 point Grand Slams: 3 points HBP: 1 point Pitching Innings Pitched: 3 points Hit Allowed: -1 point Walks Allowed: -1 point Strikeouts: 1 point Earned Runs: -1 point Wins: 10 points Losses: -5 points Saves: 10 points Blown Saves: -5 points Complete Games: 5 points Shutouts: 10 points No-Hitter: 20 points Perfect Game: 30 points Starting Lineups C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, CI, MI, UI, 5 OF, up to 7 pitchers (either 5 SP/2 RP or 4 SP/3 RP) Pitching Maximums We are doing away with yearly maximums this year in favor of a simpler weekly restriction for SP and RP games. Game Periods We have a split week format, with 2 game periods each week running Mon-Thurs and Fri-Sun. You have until game time of the first scheduled game to set your lineup. Playoffs 4 teams make the playoffs: 2 division winners + 2 wild cards. First round of the playoffs is 2 game periods added together (1 week total). Championship round is 4 game periods added together (2 weeks total). The champion gets their name etched into Clutch Leagues fantasy sports history.
i like the 5/2 idea, not the mix I'm back in if there is a trade deadline if so does anyone want to make some trades with me???
stupid question Fade about scoring, (just dawned on my after seeing the scoring set-up in another league) hits 1 point, but not 1 point for a single??
Smeg, I would consider Cliff Lee for some picks, or for David Wright, Encarnacion, or Mauer. I also would take Verlander off your hands if he ties you up. Jamma.
From what I've understood, as soon as you trade a keeper for another player you plan to keep their numbers reset to 0. Right guys?
Absolutely they do. That's part of the incentive for trades, that you reset to zero. If you traded Reyes for Kershaw or Halladay, the numbers for both players would reset to zero.
Sounds good..... So, anyone want to trade? Also, since the previous owner had the lowest number of points, I can take the first pick and take one of my keepers that has a 4, correct? Sorry for so many questions.
If you are referring to the draft order, I still need to calculate the final points totals to be used to determine the pick order for draft spots. It's a bit complicated because there are penalties for unused SP/RP games left over at the end of the season (to discourage purposely not playing pitchers in order to tank). Anyway, I will get that done soon. Most likely you will end up with a high pick, if not the #1 overall.
Here is the order for draft spot selection based on last year's totals. The number in parentheses is last year's total fantasy points scored with penalties taken into account (+20 per unused SP games, +10 per unused RP game). RedNation (8015) Flash (8170) Rook (8207) Smeg (8492) PSJ (8584) Sam (8738) fadeaway (8993) jent (8755) *last year's champ always gets last choice* 1. RedNation 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.
