Yeah, Castor gets Sexson. His next pick will continue to be skipped until he returns.

Smeg's list takes Joe Mauer (C). Rocketball is up.

To play devil's advocate:

Nothing against Castor personally, and I not in any way fuming about him missing his pick, but I don't think that Castor should get the best player available at this point.

There's no saying that he would have taken Sexson, and furthermore this unfairly penalizes those remaining teams, i.e. rocketball, that are still in need of a first baseman and may have been targeting him. For us to take on NFL type rules insomuch as Castor can make his picks whenever he signs on is much more fair to the other managers.

Also, this is different from DH's pick in that he was losing a first round pick. In that instance, the whole board was still available to the other managers, so it shouldn't have altered any other teams strategy at all. At this point the team getting skipped has alot less to lose (and shouldn't actually benefit from not being here). I think he should get his 12 Hours X 2. Just my two cents.

The funny thing is I actually had Sexton first on my list, but really don't care - I'll go to my next one which is a position I need.

Who is to say Sexson is the best player available other than a list put together by CBS with who knows what criteria? His numbers are expected to decrease in Seattle and he's coming off a season ending injury. I'd say there's a significant amount of risk there.

Would we be debating this if it were the next "best" available player on the CBS list, Paul Konerko, who is also a first baseman?

I don't think we should alter the system just because it's not in the first round.

You know what. I don't like this whole "give them the best player available" thing either. From now on, if you aren't here to make your pick, you get skipped. That's all. Tough ****. The teams at the top and bottom of the order do not get an additional 12 hours.

I apologize to Rocketball for not getting the player he wanted. From now on, the CBS ranking thing will not be used.

For the record, it really doesn't bother me....it was not like he was going to save this team...I never had a chance as long as the drafting was in my hands.

That's pretty ****ty for you and Castor then. Neither of you guys should be penalized that harshly, especially when life happens and there is nothing you can do.

I thought this was addressed the first go round. Not assigning a player only sets the league up for failure when that team sucks and the manager doesn't participate 100%. It's your league, so do whatever you want.

The main issues I have with the assigning players thing is:

1. If you're going to get a player anyway, there is no incentive to be around on time or leave a list.

2. It isn't fair to the other owners who do make the effort to be around.

3. The person being skipped might not want the highest player on the CBS list. For example, if I was in DH's place and got skipped, I would not have been happy getting Abreu. I would have preferred to take one of the players still on the board when I got back. So, while taking someone from the list is done for the benefit of the person who got skipped, it might not always be what that person wants.

Of course things happen. Getting stuck at the hospital and having to attend a funeral are unfortunate situations, and are certainly valid excuses, but I think that assigning players based on some list (which is designed for roto leagues) is not the best solution and creates more issues than it solves. What's done is done, so lets just move on.

PS: Curse you Rocketball for taking Furcal!!

It's true, when I saw that I was "assigned" Abreau, my face twisted up into one of those Icehouse Bitter-beer faces. But I guess I accept it because that's the system we live with.
