WWII would never include the USA in this period of today. people are too politically correct to support war. Ironic considering that this entire country was created by war. all wars have casualties and everything is not one sided. people keep talking about how bad the vietnam war was.. why dont you ask the vietnamese people who imigrated here what happened to them by the vietcong. ask the kurdish or shiite american about saddam. what about south koreans? im sure they are happy they aren't living under kim il jon. it always appears that americans ONLY care what happens to themselves so they are blinded about wars and who they really affect.
Captain, this is Scotty in the engine room. The dilythium crystals are overheating; I don't know how much more they can take.
does anyone remember the first gulf war? I think that war was pretty well supported, mainly because the world did learn its lesson from the second world war of letting aggression go unchecked, because contrary to false information like in your post, americans did not want to go to war with germany until we were attacked, and supported the war then, like the war in afghanistan was supported. which was recent in our political correct times.
You are 100% wrong. The war in Afghanistan enjoyed the support of not only the VAST majority of Americans, but also the vast majority of the entire world. When a war is based on just causes, sound reasoning, and accurate information, we will support it just as we did Afghanistan, Desert Storm, WWI, WWII, and the Civil War. When a war is based on exaggerations and faulty "intelligence," once the facts are out, we will oppose it like we are in Iraq and like we did in Vietnam. I have no problem supporting a just war. Iraq does not qualify under that heading.
i remember that. im talking about today. 2006 not 1990s. we're still in afghanistan. i know we were bombed so we went to ww2. we got bombed 911. so are you saying we have to get attacked to justify another war? im not saying the iraq war is right or wrong, but we did go to war once already with iraq and we did continue some limited 'war' activities during the clinton administration. what are you saying is the right answer? to leave iraq now and have chaos run amok? the vietnam war was just for some and unjust for others. like i said nothing is all bad and nothing is all good. iraq has good things as wel as bad things going for it.
Invading Iraq was unnecessary, illegal and has been justified by the current administration with a bunch of lies. North Korea is run by a mad man who lets the general populace starve, Cuba is still being run by Castro and there are countless corrupt governments in Africa. Have we invaded them? No! Why? Because their little countries aren't sitting on top of a bunch of oil and they aren't located between other countries sitting on top of a bunch of oil. If it wasn't a good idea to invade Iraq when Bush Sr. was in office, then why all of a sudden was it a good idea to invade with Bush Jr. in office? Iraq seems like the start of a broader war over resources. Who consumes the most resources in the world. Um, the good old U.S.A.
I think a country should at least be a threat to us. iraq was pretty much proven not to be, which in turn changed the view on this war. remember, according to polls the majority of americans did support iraq, then we found no weapons, then we found out reports of nuclear weapon building were pretty much false, the connections to terrorist are shaky at best. that will erode your support.
what about the spanish american war? what about korea and vietnam? were those unjust?? what if north korea defeated south korea? what about the millions of successful south vietnamese people who had great jobs and land taken away from them by the north vietnamese and forced to live under communism. how do you think they feel that the south korea is such a rich country? south korea isnt a third world country and north korea is and vietnam basically is. if the usa had won the war, they must have thought, we could be prosperous.
so what happens now? whats the answer? leave? just say oh sorry. we're going to leave and let their country crumble into chaos. my bad we dont care, u guys arent americans. i know the republicans will lose the next election. thats a given. i also know we'll still be in iraq.
I wasn't trying to make a value judgement on every war we had ever fought, merely pointing out the ones that were obviously just (we were attacked by an outside force or forced to act due to grave injustices in our country) and those that were based on, at the very least, exaggerations (Iraq's WMDs, the Gulf of Tonkin incident). The war in Iraq was wrong from the start. Now that we are there, we need to find the exit strategy that will cause the least conflict down the line and then execute it as quickly as possible.
As long as we're talking Republicans and war, here are a few observations from one Abraham Lincoln on the Mexican-American War: All quotes taken from William Lee Miller's "Lincoln's Virtues: An Ethical Biography"
even if the war was wrong, iraq was an enemy and if we can change an enemy into an ally that will serve us well in the long term. ever since the history of the world there will be wars. you can't go back in time and undo things, but you can do the best that you can now. if you can spur change in the middle east, do so. im so freaking sick of the middle east. there's something just wrong with the attitudes and mindset of people there. there's too much religious issues and bitterness since the beginning of time there. anyone remember what happened way before we ever were involved there? the countries there were fighting amongst themselves. look at the vietnam war, that was much worse, much more casualties, yet now the people show no ill will toward americans and they want them to come to their country.
Wow! Talk about dumbest post of the year candidate. Let's see you're f@#$ing pissed because others are f@#$ing pissed. And your advice to them is to STFU. And apparently right or wrong or accountability mean nothing when it comes to war. The mess has been made right or wrong, well which one is it? Talk about playing it both ways, why can't you just take one side and stick to like bigtess, basso and traitor j. At least to them everything is going in the right direction.
The south Vietnamese people were ruled by a corrupt, and brutal dictatorship. It favored only a few, and was unjust to many. If the U.S. had won the war that govt. would have stayed in power, and it would have been far worse for the Vietnamese people.
