    Yeah, America will make up the deficit by charging tourists increased sales tax.

    :confused::confused::confused:

    and really, government oversight of private finance should be going to getting government out. It's not like there's a $20 trillion dollar offshore economy. good idea, let's make ALL of America an obscure offshore economy, in the name of---i dunno, so bob feels better that his annual income isn't tabulated by anyone but his employer, and an agency bound by law to confidentiality.

    again---

    perhaps you're confused because I didn't make that argument

    You're confused why increased privacy and the government not rifling through individuals' personal finances might be appealing to people?

    I am making it for you, seeing as how you have the debtophobia disease that most Paulites do---I am assuming you can connect the dots here. What you propose in aggregate or in isolation would ruin the economy and debtload of Americans.

    I'm confused as to why it matters even if it's true, seeing as how every government everywhere does it, and has strict confidentiality procedures assigned to the procedure. And really, what is there to hide in your personal finances other than if you're offshoring?

    You pay a price for being part of an organized society. Having an anonymous agent bound to confidentiality and jail time if they spread your irrelevant and needle in a "haystack/5000 piles of tax returns" numbers in dinner conversation isn't a very high cost.
