Pardon my skepticism, but I don't really think Jalen Rose is the most trustworthy source for info regarding the legitimacy of that team.

Did they define "significant"? The whole way this thing was pimped out on ESPN just rubbed me the wrong way.

Rose actually took small amounts which is documented in court, webber is the only memeber of the fab five who was implicated for taking large sums of money. mitch albom whom I can't stand from the sports reporter days was saying he never saw webber with a lot of money and speculated it was between the last game and him being drafted.

we know you don't care but since you brought it up

Albom ALMOST got me on Webber's side, if the money was given after he stopped playing NCAA ball then I could see him as some type of victim in the matter but the fact he lied in court tells me there is more to the story then meets the eye.

so what if he got paid. i think college athletes should get paid. dont give me that 'they get a free education' crap, they are only going to that school for 1 thing. the school gets a good team, potentially earning the school money and the players get to play ball, for a chance to do it professionally... thats it.

i'd love to own a business where it's against the rules to pay my workforce.

Was pretty good but a little overlong and sort of overstated their cultural significance, IMO.

It wasn't like they were the first mostly-black team to do well, far from it. (UNLV, UH, Louisville, etc etc etc)

Also they didn't exactly bring rap (children: that's what we called the hip-hop back then) into popular culture like it was implied.

Also was funny to see Eric Riley again....he's got his ring...

    two hours was too long.

i was honestly waiting for the game in new orleans. that's all i wanted to see, and all i wanted to hear about.

That piece was slightly bias. You see the three producers? yeah, exactly.

And when Lebron, Wade, and Bosh see Juwan, they say, damn, that guy got paid 100 million and stole sun glasses? not that he was a fab 5.

still need to get around and seeing that SMU one.

I didn't think Rose was that critical of Webber. I only recall him saying he should not have thrown the booster under the bus, and that he and Webber had a rocky time after that. What did you guys hear to say he bashed him?

The piece was biased but it did reveal the players side of things, which has never really been talked about. I had no clue the group was tired of being "exploited" by their sophomore year. The school and sponsors did make a ton of $$ off of that group.

I agree that UNLV was the Fab 5 before the Fab 5, with the difference being they weren't all freshman. When did their documentary come on HBO?

I didn't get the first mostly-black team to do well vibe. I just got that that they were 5 freshman starting which was never done before type of vibe.

Anyway the footage of C-Webb walking with his head down the whole time to the lockerroom after the UNC game gave me chills. That was the best part of footage that they showed last night.

I thought it was interesting that Mitch Albom said if C-Webb was getting money from a booster he hid it well because he still lived poor. If a 19 year old was getting that type of money there is no way you don't flaunt it in someway especially considering the type of attitude the Fab 5 carried.

Best 30 for 30 for me.

I should clarify, they didn't claim that they were the first black team to do well, , but they basically implied that they were like Miami Hurricanes from the 80's who brought hip hop/streetball etc to the college game.

They kept bringing up NWA, Public Enemy, etc and how they were from another planet than most sportswriters - those guys hit it big in the late 80's back when I was in junior high -> hell by the time Webber called his infamous, timeout, NWA had already broken up.

The UNLV doc came on this weekend, not sure if it was the 1st time it came on though. I'm sure they will replay it quite often over the next month.

Rose called Webber a liar, which he was, for not telling the truth about Martin. To me, it just seemed like he made a point of separating himself from Webber as to not associate himself with the issues that Webber/Michigan had to deal with. Nothing he said was wrong but took me by surprise, I imagined he would do like King and Jackson and stay pretty much neutral.

Ok I see what you are saying. They narrator did say something about them influencing Hip Hop which as you said looked to be overblown based on what they showed in the documentary of them just telling reporters who they liked to listen to.

And who would have thought that Juwan Howard would be the one still playing in 2011 when the rest of the guys have long retired?

Still think Anderson Hunt was the best player and most clutch......way better than Greg Anthony or Larry Johnson. I heard he was too short for the NBA but I would have given this guy a chance to prove himself if I was a coach in the NBA.

Didn't Anderson Hunt miss a 3-pointer at the end against Duke in the semifinal in 1991? UNLV was undefeated going into that game and clearly choked, Hunt included. Very "clutch".

That was a strange Final Four because everyone expected UNLV and North Carolina in the final and it ended up being Duke vs. Kansas.

You can't be serious Anderson Hunt was better than LJ. C'mon man. A guy that didn't even get drafted was better than the #1 pick? He was no more than a poor man's Luther Head.

I loved it. I never realized how good Chris Webber was as a freshman.. amazing. Could you imagine if he was that good in today's NCAA? LBJ hype.

For those who care, the UNLV special is on now, back on Wednesday, and on HBO on Demand.

    I enjoyed it.
I thought it was funny when they all started describing Christian Laettner, as a b****.
Interesting to hear Jalen Rose on Duke, and his bitter feelings due to his own father never being around.
Who was that signaling for a timeout to Webber?
Never achieved their ultimate goal, but loved the united friendship.
30 for 30 is always pretty solid.

Like he said those were his thoughts at that young age. People are still bashing him for it. People can bash Jalen all they want but the top recruits they get are usually not players from bad environments. Now there is nothing wrong with that either but I don't think Jalen's comments were that bad considering it was how he felt as a young talented player that wasn't recruited by Duke.
