The opinions stating that he was athletic enough to play SG and mainly SF were simply pre-draft opinions. It is my opinion that this guy is best mainly at PF with some SF match-ups. And yes, just because his entire time here in the NBA has been mainly at PF doesn't mean he can't play SF well, but it also means that he has spent most of his entire time at PF. 82games.com has always been reliable and accurate to me, so maybe the other sites are just as good, but when there's a data conflict, personally, I'm going with 82games.com over hoopshype or anything else. I'm not saying he's bad. I'm not saying the Rockets can't use him. I just don't think he's high on the Rockets' radar b/c he's a PF guy at best with some SF ability. In that Spurs scenario, I picked because it was their #2 most used 5 man floor set this year. And the one guy who replied put Hermann at the 4, which is exactly my point. I think if you go to 82games.com and look at common 5 man floor units for Western teams, and then Eastern teams, and them put out a Rockets 5-man team to play against, you'll most of the time put Hermann at the 4 with his good shooting and decent size and flowing hair. With Yao, Landry, Scola, Hayes, Deke splitting 4/5 time and then the Rockets looking to get another true Big if Deke leaves...I just don't see enough PF time available for Hermann to make an impact as a Rocket next year. And he's NOT going to play SG. Just because pre-draft opinions from websites based on what he did before the NBA says he's athletic enough to play SF and SG, that doesn't mean it's true. He may be able to play SF and some SG, but he hasn't shown that in the NBA yet. The Rockets are looking for a 2/3 guy and Hermann doesn't fit the bill. IF they're going after Hermann, that means Hayes or Landry or Scola is out via trade. Just my opinion.
early on in the season i think they were giving brooks or was it francis minutes under pg even though adelman was playing him at sg
But those opinions have not been disproven. As I said, he played PF in Charlotte because he was capable and that's where they were thin. He doesn't have a 3 or 4 year career to gauge what his "real" position is. We're talking about basically 1 season, cumulatively. And for the record, it's not hoopshype, it's hoopsstats. It's a fantasy basketball statistics site that is as informative as 82games.com in my opinion. Less formulas and such, but tons of raw stats/splits. That's the only part that I think anyone in this thread has claimed. That is, some ("sparingly") minutes at SG...depending on matchups of course. As their primary target, yes. I see no reason why that would mean they would not consider bringing in Hermann as cheap as he will probably end up being. Besides, let's face it...the Rockets have no recent history of luring big free agents, or even the most desirable of "MLE" players. We can all dream big, but there's a very good chance we have to split the MLE and go for guys like Hermann and Pietrus. Plus we're only crowded at PF until an injury to that position or C. If we can't sign/draft a suitable backup for Yao and he goes down again, Scola would be able to swing over to center and Landry/Hermann could handle PF. Personally, I find the versatility of that combo more than the Landry/Scola tandem. You're right that he may not be able to handle more than a couple of SG minutes here or there, but I'm very confident that he could help anyway.
I bet you didn´t see novak put up a season like hermanns first season, Novak is a one trick pony, very good at his one trick but one dimensional. Hermann can have games of 20+ points or 10+ rebounds, someone said he played garbage time in Charlotte that´s not true, he played a lot on the second half of his first season and with him playing at least 20 mins a game Charlotte was close to make the PO. I read that Detroit want´s to keep him, but i am not sure why they didn´t play him, maybe they changed their mind.
Acquiring Hermann would make more Battier expendable in a trade for a PG. We would get better offense and the same level of defense and hustle. Morey, go get him.
umm...same level of defense? jumping the gun much? so you're anointing hermann the starting SF? Leap of faith much?
want to know what the Pistons are about by not playing Herrmann you can read this thread from a Pistons forum. http://www.pistonsforum.com/detroit-pistons-general-discussion/8106-hayes-herrmann.html
I agree. I really wanted Barnes last season, but he tailed off this year and didn't shoot well. I'd rather have the guys you mentioned and I'd take a look at Hermann. Those are people we could realistically afford and who would add to our bench and possibly evolve into starter material someday.
Nope. Sorry. The best NBA pictures ever both belong to the San Antonio Spurs: Tim Duncan says BYAH! Spoiler Really gay photo of Tony Parker warning: Spoiler And for no real reason, one more awesome photo from Sterling: Spoiler
Hermann is an intriguing choice coming off the bench. Maybe if some of our other efforts fail I would look into getting him. Kinda reminds me off boki in some ways.
Morey, please get Delfino and Hermann as FA T Mac for Ginobili and Oberto Battier for Nocioni And we have the new Houston/Argentina Rockets Alston/Jackson/brooks Manu/Delfino Nocioni/Hermann Scola/Landry Yao/Oberto/Deke It's a joke. I'am an argentina rocket fan
This guy's fairly athletic for a big, but not nearly enough to cover most wings in the nba. He's not even as quick as Nocioni, who can barely play SF as it is. If anything, we should be going after Nocioni if our coveted trade targets (Artest, Miller, Maggette) don't happen.
