I watched his highlight video....second one on the menu. He did that "take my shirt off" dunk in a game! This guy seems to be a fun guy. He may not take the game too seriously. Maybe that's why teams like the Bobcats didn't want him. I'll take him though.
I don't think he's a "wing" player. he's not quick enough to stay with other wing players. he doesn't have much of handles and I don't think he could spell tmac, just shane.
A) We can use the MLE before signing Landry. B) We can use the LLE on Landry, keeping the MLE free for other use. C) We can use the LLE on Hermann. There are definitely ways to sign this guy and I don't think a S&T is likely one of them.
I'm not sure how effectively he could step in for TMac when needed, but depending on who else we get in the off-season, he may not have to anyway.
That route is still possible. Rockets have a $2.4M TE. Offer $1.5 to $1.8M and give Detroit a future second round pick for their troubles.
Seriously, Blathersby? You are willing to make a personnel decision based on aesthetics? That blows my mind. Besides, Scola has basically the same haircut, he just isn't blonde. But seriously? I remember back when people didn't want guys like Iverson because they were covered in tattoos (you don't hear that one anymore do you?) but I have never heard of somebody wanting no part of a player because of their haircut. Wow. Anyhow, I thought Hermann was looking very promising when he had that good stint on the Bobcats and I would LOVE him as an LLE signing. I don't care if he perms his hair.
I could see Fabio with 15-20 Min per game especially if Francis doesn't pan out. He can shoot the 3 with the best of em. He would take Bobby Jackson's minutes and some of Battier, Landry and Scola's though.
That seems to be a fair suggestion. I'm a little tentative with my interest in this guy mainly because I think him & Novak coming off the bench would be pretty redundant. That having been said, $1.5-1.8M for this guy is still worth considering.
Ok, someone please explain this to me. I'm getting really confused as to why people think Novak and Hermann are identical players, aside from the fact that they can both shoot (and have white skin). Hermann is significantly better than Novak in just about every conceivable way.
He did that shot on the Spain ASG, he was screwed with he bobcats because Bieckerstaff was said to play Morrison so he had to wait until Morrison sucked to be able to play Hermann then Bieckerstaff said he would play Hermann a lot next year but he was fired a new coach came and it was all over again for him, plus, the bobcats had Gerald Wallace to fill in his spot. For those who don´t know him he is a very fast SF with very long range and a very good shooter, the true is he needs at least 5 o 6 shots per game to work, so i don´t think he fits in here, but once this guy get´s going he is very hard to stop because of his size for he position. Very good slasher and cutter, he gets the majority of points from cuts that pairs him to a slower or smaller defender.
looks good but he might end up being the kind guy teams will overpay for based on a few nice percentages (aka the Brian Cardinal effect).
Which is exactly what the Adleman offense is supposed to be. Hard cuts, open shots, slashers. I think Hermann fits perfectly.
Dude, the Pistons playoffs and later part of regular season have been on TV a lot. Hermann does not play SG. He plays PF and SF for them. He doesn't have the foot speed to guard the Rip Hamiltons of the L (I know it's his teammate) and even though he's tall like Tayshaun, he's still too slow to guard most wing players. I think the Rockets are looking more into a wing defender and penetrator/scorer 1st. Of course this guy can be looked into after the fact...I'm just thinking the Rockets radar is set elsewhere. Okay, I just looked up the stats to confirm my opinion from what I've seen. Maybe Hermann has the foot speed to guard PFs and some SFs, but he definitely doesn't have enough lateral foot speed to guard SG/SF quick types. Check his 5 man units for the Pistons and Bobcats. http://www.82games.com/0708/07DET12B.HTM http://www.82games.com/0708/07CHA9B.HTM http://www.82games.com/0607/06CHA11B.HTM This year for the Pistons, Hermann has played 101 minutes at the PF position, 38 minutes at the Center position and less than 5 minutes at the SF position. For the Bobcats he played 71 minutes at the PF position, and less than 5 minutes at the C and SF positions. Last year for the Bobcats he played 330 minutes at the PF position, 14 minutes at the SF position, and 10 minutes at the C position. So umm, come to think of it, after all the evidence, stats, and from what I've seen on the court, Hermann is a Power Forward. He does not have the quickness to guard SFs in general and he never has played Shooting guard....NEVER. That was a scouting report I assume of what Hermann could possibly do in the NBA, but so far in the NBA, Hermann has never played SG and has spent the overwhelming majority of his time (like 95%) at the PF position. Are the Rockets looking to add a PF who specializes in shooting? Maybe, but it's definitely not priority #1, #2, nor #3.
Thanks for the clarification, Seth. I have a question though. If he requires 5 or 6 shots per game to be effective, what's wrong with that? Luther took 6.5 this past year, Shane took 7.7, Rafer took 12.5, Bobby took 8.1. Just among those guys I could find at least 10 shots that I'd rather give to Hermann.
You cannot use the Pistons as a measure of Hermann. He's got the athleticism to play the 3 or the 4. He's more of a 3 though. Nobody ever said he was a guard.
From what i've seen Hermann is mostly a spot up shooter. Sure, he can put the ball on the floor unlike Novak but it seems to be a tool he doesn't utilize enough. That having been said, you bring in the guy for what 10-15 minutes a game in an inside-outside offense? What exactly is it you think he'll be doing besides catching kick outs? Forgive me for not being enamored with the numbers he put up for like 10 games over a year ago in garbage time. Like I said, I think he's a decent player but I see too many similarities in the roles he & Novak would share in this offense and its precisely why i'm only interested if he came blue-light-special cheap.
I know you're just joking (I think) but we're in no position to be choosy on things like this when we need skilled players as much as possible (not having playoff success for 11 years shouldn't exactly foster an elite picky atmosphere amongst the fans). hell we're considering getting that loose nutcase artest, I still think that's a gamble but we still have to consider him cause we aren't exactly stacked with skilled players. plus I just glanced at your myspace, you sure want to be commenting on others looks?...j/k my opinion is that we go after mike miller first and dump as many expiring contracts on the grizz as possible, maybe afterwards we have enough money for hermann, doesn't look like he'll be sought after in the market that much. we can try to wait until all the other free agents sign then offer what we can to hermann, been successful for us in past free agents like bonzi.
