Explanation on why Lowry's offer to be matched is so high

    But you're missing one part of the story. It's not just about what Lowry's worth on the FA market, but also how much he's worth to the Rockets.

    Put it this way, if Morey doesn't sign Lowry, then presumably he'll try to sign someone else. If for example he projects Llul a superior player to Lowry, then rather than giving Lowry big, he can pay a veteran PG(through FA or trade) for one year this year, and bring in Llul next year. Something to that effect.

    Also, by giving Lowry 3 to 4 years, we shut out Llul coming to the US. We also miss cap flexibility next year, if Yao shows he simply cannot stay healthy as a player anymore.

    So yes, I'm sure Cleveland won't mind paying Lowry $6 mil for the next year years. That's why they offered that amount. But will the Rockets feel the same way?
