I only drink coffee when I'm at work - never at home. I gave up coffee for 2 years and was more wired than when I was on it. lol. I probably drink 1 carbonated drink every month at the most. My biggest problem is drinking Crystal Light... I drink that crap by the gallon... and I know some of its flavors have caffeine.

How is any of that more natural than coffee?

My understanding is that coffee gets a bad rap. It's one of the greatest sources of antioxidants in the American diet ever since we had that little tea party in Boston and made the switch to coffee.

    Everything in moderation, of course....

And I'm a zombie in the morning because I firmly believe people have different natural clocks. I've NEVER been a morning person, I've ALWAYS felt more productive in the afternoon through the night, and I come from a LONG family history of exactly the same behavior, and I THANK GOD every day that I'll be going into a profession where I can work 3pm-11pm shifts.

As for me, I'll have 3-4 cups when I have to be up early, but maybe just one cup if I can get up when I want to.

    Mornings effing suck.

Edit: Everything that MadMax said on the previous page.

Guarana? Umm, according to the all-knowing Wikipedia:

"As a dietary supplement, guarana is an effective energy booster – it contains about twice the caffeine found in coffee beans (about 2-4.5% caffeine in guarana seeds compared to 1-2% for coffee beans)."

So, all-natural or not, you're still looking at caffeine. Besides, coffee is all-natural too :)

so what would even be the upside of greentea/guarana/ginseng over coffee? the latter is natural too while giving more of a boost.

coffee is harmless and anyone that says otherwise is just plain evil, probably british too, who drinks tea in the morning.

I went to a vietnamese restaurant and they served me coffee with condensed milk. First time I'd ever tried it, and it was the best.

Drinking decaf coffee is like drinking beer without alcohol, what's the point?

At any rate, I drink coffee when I get a chance to. Often I'm too busy at work to drink a full cup. There are days when I drink 2 cups, and plenty of days when I drink none at all. It's just not that big a deal. It's nice when you have the time, and there are few smells as pleasant in the morning as coffee brewing.

condensed milk, the kind that goes in pastries. It's very sweet and good. They even serve it in a device that looks like it was made in the early 19th century.

I had it once where they brewed coffee, then used that coffee to brew it through again in place of water, with the condensed milk. It was some of the best jittery goodness I've ever experienced.

thacabbage, you don't mention anywhere how much sleep you get per night?

It seems like most people go without coffee until they start burning the candle at both ends. I'm kind of neutral on the topic, I don't necessarily feel that it's bad or good for you.

I was addicted to diet coke for a while. It started out as "man, this stuff tastes a little nasty, but at least it's zero calorie". I went from there to "Oh, man, this isht tastes sooo good!" That's when I realized that I might be addicted.

I'd get headaches if I didn't have some in the morning, and it started to p*ss me off that I was dependent on it. I quit cold turkey for a while, broke the habit, and now have one once in a blue moon. But I think diet coke is a lot worse for you than coffee, considering the chemicals and likelihood that it makes you want to eat sweets.

    It can aggravate anxiety.

That's only bad thing I can think of.

aspartme is fairly harmless. uncited sources back me on this.

although diet coke w/o caffeine is pretty good for days where I want the carbonation but don't want that much caffeine.

    First Sign of Addiction: DENIAL.

"It's not a dependency issue." Sure it isn't. That's what most addicts, whether its cigs, cocaine or coffee, always say. Seek help before caffeine takes over your life. I've seen caffeine become the downfall of many people. Or not.

Max is pretty amazing that way. Personally, while I can function well enough without some java in the morning, my mornings are simply more enjoyable with a cup or two. Why worry about it? Unless a person is just sensitive to caffeine, and some people are, no doubt, coffee, in my opinion, is another harmless habit one can fall into. You know, like having sex with your significant other on weekend mornings.

For about the tenth time now, the issue dates back to before I began the caffeine consumption.

To me aspartame is the devil. I have vowed never to ingest this vile substance. I used to get all anxious after taking it. It was in this particular type of protein powder I switched to one time. I stopped using the powder, after realizing what it was doing to me. Some of my friends have reported getting headaches after taking aspartame as well.
