When I was quota kid at Groton it was all Patagonia or North Face. Then when I "transferred" to Baytown Lee I think Hilfiger and Polo were kind of coming back, so I guess labels matter. Clothing-wise, the only expensive thing I've felt good paying for was a pair of Allen Edmonds. But I think every man should definitely overspend on an eletric razor.
I can attest to the greatness of Allen Edmonds shoes, as I own two pairs: one black and one burgundy. Cost $200 a pair, but well worth it. Very classic look, high quality, and comfortable.
I've never been a big fan of the Boogie active EQs. But I will agree that Marshall is crap. If I ever have the $$$, I'm getting one of these. http://www.65amps.com/main.html http://www.reevesamps.com/
for me, it's makeup, shampoo/conditioner, lotions, deodorants, etc. like tools for men (i guess), it's just worth it to have high-end makeup and skin care stuff (i usually like clinique). i wait until they have liter sales and buy abba hair products. expensive things that i DON'T think are worth it are jewelry, purses, most articles of clothing, shoes, and electronics. just don't care enough. OH, but i forgot. i bought an ipod touch a couple months ago and i LOVE it. so, i guess i was lying about the electronics thing. i heart apple.
Gotta disagree. Before they included huge PCB's in every amp they sold they were a higher quality product, but now they are just different. More features does not make something better.
I have a Marshall DSL50, Vintage Modern, Mesa Boogie Heartbreaker, and Tremoverb. There is nothing on the Marshall that is crap compared to the Mesa.
Tools are the number one thing for me. Good hand tools cost for the initial purchase but they will last for your lifetime. Plus if you spread out the purchase over 10 years or so, and buy smart, it will never hurt. Or you can buy your stuff from Home Depot and get garbage.
Yeah, I don't need a $300 coat it is somebody else who requested it for Christmas but I am skipping it. Macy's has 25% off but that's still $225. I just cannot justify it.
LEGO. Lego vs knock-offs: The quality is plain to see. I've seen knock-offs breaking after a few months of use, while the Lego blocks I have from 30 years ago are good as new. Computer parts. Really makes a difference long-term.
Are Boogies PCB now? I did not know that. Well, either way I won't be buying anything that's not turret board hand wired constructed from now on.
One year I got a gift card for my birthday and went and looked at leather jackets and found one I liked for $400. That's too much, so I waited until after Christmas and it was marked down to $200. And by then I had gotten another gift card, so I ended up only paying $50 out of my pocket. It's a great jacket too.
Higher end gear is always expensive. Don't you live in Arkansas? I thought they only used ski masks there to hold up liquor stores? FWIW -- I'd love me a NorthFace jacket. I, too, was at Whistler last week -- cozy and warm in my layers of fleece and windproof shell. (But not nearly as stylish as MB and his wife!).
I haven't owned any North Face clothing, but the North Face Surge backpack is perfection and easily worth the money IMHO (~$100). And I've looked far and wide. I would definitely give their clothing a look if I was in the market for winter wear. You're welcome, halo effect.
Music is well worth it Vox AC30CC2X Spoiler American made Fender/Gibson guitars. (strat, tele or lp sl for me)
