Expectations for Morey at the deadline unreasonable?

Why unreasonable? For the last two years, eveyone keeps saying how the Rockets have all these pieces and we're the best team to make a deal with. Remember, this went on during the whole Chris Bosh fiasco. Well, if we have all the best chips for making a trade, I don't think the expectations are unreasonable at all.

Well they don't seem to have a direction.

It's like the team wants to rebuild and make the playoffs at the same time...which isn't rebuilding and more like re-tooling.

Either way i'm going to wait until the deadline to make any judgments, but it sure seems that way to me.

Don't shoot the messenger, but this is a decent probability. I have good ties with NeNe's extended family, meaning his lady's side.

Of the places he'd be okay going, it's Miami and any team in Texas.

Just what I've been told by a friend.

Would love to have NeNe in red.

At this point, trading for a star is unreasonable to expect from Morey even though that's what he says he is after.

With that said though I want a multitude of draft picks from Yao Mings contract and to package three or four of the regular rotation players for an upgrade at the Center position and the SF spot.

The players I would want to keep would be Chuck Hayes, Patterson, Ish Smith, Kevin Martin, and maybe Terrence Williams and Jordan Hill. Sounds like an odd mix but these players have talents that have yet to be fully utilized except for Kevin Martin and Chuck whose talents are irreplaceable.

I just don't see a true star being available for the Rockets for years and Morey needs as many shots at the draft as possible to find a fresh young superstar.

FYI, the Rockets missed out on hiring Tom Thibbidou long term a couple seasons ago when they decided to move away from JVG. I think he will be a great coach for many many years and really shows amazing coaching skills on defense as well as offense.

Not taking anything away from Adelman, he is a hall of fame coach, but his style of coaching just doesn't seem to fit with what the Rockets have represented in past years. The Rockets will never win a title with Adelman coaching because he does not coach defense well. I think this summer it will be hard to see Adelman coming back.

Any team in Texas and Florida... Well yeah who wouldn't. You increase your take home earnings from 8 to 10% because of no state tax. That's why it's mind boggling that the Rockets are having so much trouble attracting star talent. Any player making over 15 Million a year is in a much higher tax bracket.

I also believe that's one of the main reasons the big three chose Miami other than the obvious reasons they could take a lower salary and still be taking home about as much income if they were making full level max dollars in NY.

Nene would be a great pickup though and I'm sure he's as interested as any player about to be on the market about the possibility of the Rockets.

Well I'm really hoping Morey can pull off a blockbuster, but he has as much a chance of doing that as McCain did of beating Obama in the '08 election. I'm expecting just another minor trade thats moneyball in nature.

Morey needs to clear cap space and bring in studs.

Cap space isn't really the issue here, and im 99.99% positive that Morey will move under the lux tax before the deadline. With the amount of expirings the Rockets currently have, it wouldn't be difficult to take on a max contract if the player was actually available.

The problem here is timing of the market. Almost every star player is off the market now due to the massive free agency bonanza of 2010. You want a young marketable star, you might be forced to look at the draft as the most likely option.

I'm not expecting a star; I'll be a little disappointed if we bring in Carmelo.

I would be happy to see Iggy or Gerald Wallace, plus Dalembert (to be re-signed at a decent salary after the season) or Nene, plus an additional two first-round picks, without giving up PPatt or giving up more than we get. I think DM can do that.

As for being unreasonable, DM is due for a bust. Either in a trade or in a draft pick, it will happen. In fact, he is due for a couple of them. He can't keep up his success rate.

The expectations should be high, since Morey pretty much makes it clear that he's playing for the trade deadline every year. By doing that he's basically conceding the season. If you're going to willingly throw away seasons by hoping to cash in later, you better produce. Unfortunately for fans, even if Morey doesn't do that, it may not matter in the eyes of Less Alexander as long as he makes a profit.

Maybe ur saying talk is cheap. We keeep hearing about these assets and how morey is a big deal maker, but the truth is,some gms know how to make deals for stars and some dont. So far, what has been so difficult about the players aquired? Nothing. He's calculting guy and thats cool. He would be better on a team with established superstars and need tinkering. I dont think he's the type for a big overhaul project or franchise trying to do a 360.

He should go for the small but impactful trades

Rip Hamilton for Battier and Jefferies [I like Jeffries but i think it is him of hill] -- It works on the Trade Machine

Then trade Yao's salary for NeNe and Chris andersen
    or
Yao's Salary and Brad Miller for NeNe and Billups
It works on the Trade Machine

    Nene for Yao's salary

CD sure knew how to get it done. Let's hope Morey learned something from him. Haven't seen it yet.

What he gets is somewhat irrelavent. The real concern is whether he can get anything out of at least three expirings and two trade exceptions. If he blanks on these assets, we should all be incredibly disappointed.

    Just a question...

When was the last time a "trade exception" was used in a trade?

I don't think having high expectations for your team is ever wrong. Especially when the team talks about their assets like the rox do.

By the Rockets? Getting Terrence Williams. Getting Courtney Lee.
