Is it me or is Andersen simply Scott Padgett 2.0? No defense, limited rebounding but tons of hustle and a nice jump shot.
my expectations are the same. will be a good year for us if we end up within shouting distance of .500.
got this from a hawks fan who watches every game and is a huge fan. Don't quite understand? Maybe hes a problem, anyone know about him?
Until we sign Andersen, we have the option of not signing him. We could trade him. We could sign somebody with the MLE, say Wilcox, and then send Andersen back to Europe. I'm guessing DM won't sign him right away, to keep his options open.
His defense is horrible, so I doubt he starts. Hollinger had a projected PER for him of 12.86. For the sake of comparison, Scola had a significantly better 16.13 PER his first year here, when he averaged 10.3 pts on 51.5% shooting and 6.4 rebounds per game. A 12.86 PER is not very good...Andrea Bargnani, a somewhat similar type player, had a 12.85 PER his rookie year when he averaged 11.6 pts on only 42.7% shooting to go along with 3.9 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. Of course, Bargnani was only 21 at the time...
I think Anderson is gonna get lots of playing time this year with Yao out and show us a thing or 2 about a thing or 2. My predictions for Anderson: minutes per game: 30 points per game: 15 rebounds per game: 7 assists per game: 3 FG%: 47% FT%: 80 TP%: 36 Nice pleasant suprise.
We will have another trade sometime this year. When Tmac comes back and starts to play for the first time expect some activity. Of course knowing Tmac he will probably prolongue that comeback to coincide with right after the trade deadline by one day.
Andersen has an NBA opt out clause in his contract. The deadline was yesterday. I don't know if he actually exercised it or not. If he didn't exercise it, he won't be here. If he did, it would really be a dick move if Morey decided not to sign him.
Since when has this ever been a concern of Rick Adelman? I mean, EVER? Really? He has started many a player in his time that couldn't play a lick of defense, The Rockets not withstanding. Luis Scola is proof positive.
Expectations? Not much for this season. But once Yao gets back, I expect Andersen to be a solid backup center for Yao.
I expect we'll run. Anderson can trail, shoot a kick-out three, or be the high-post passer. Be Divac, in other words, complete with the cigarette dangling from his lips while he's playing.
Luis Scola is not a bad defender. The Rockets were a top defensive team last year. Portland was a top defensive team when Rick was there. He's not JVG, but he does care about defense.
Absolutely agree. I don't like that he never seemed to give JVG any credit for making the Rox a defensive team, though.
It's easy when you come in with players that were coming away from a defensive minded coach. Not to mention the players you had left over that were top level defenders. Then you add Ron Artest. The fact is, The Kings were always laughed at for their atrocious defense. They would blow you out in the first quarter and by the 4th they would let the other team back in. To say Rick Adelman doesn't care about defense is not a true statement. But to say he has EVER attempted to START a balanced team is laughable. Whoever has the best scoring ability WILL start for Rick Adelman, you can take that to the bank. Had Tracy McGrady not been injured, Battier would be coming off the bench. You look at every coach in the NBA and look at every top level defender that has come down the line and you will see that 99% of coaches will start their best defender over a better scorer. And generally championship level teams are built that way. Dennis Rodman. Ben Wallace. Bruce Bowen. Even Trevor Ariza who shouldn't even be mentioned in the conversation of GOOD defenders, started over the much more versatile Lamar Odom and the better post player in Andrew Bynum. Sure, there are rare cases where you have great defenders and scorers in one package (Kevin Garnett) but Luis Scola "not a bad defender" is the most laughable argument that is constantly debated on this forum.
IMO: I don't envision Anderson starting or being more than a 15 mpg backup. Should we sign Wilcox, I see even less of a role for him, unless his attitude and work ethic got an enema and he becomes the 15-8 hardnosed player he can be. I suspect the plan is to trade Battier for Pryzbilla should Utah decline to match the Milsap offer. We need a true, experienced center that can give us 25 to 30 mpg far more than we need a role player extraordinaire at the 3. Evan
