Josh Smith is a bad idea. I think to complete this team, the PF needs to be young and unselfish. We've been talking about the culture of the team for some time and I'm starting to see why our starters mixes so well. They all share the same value which is young, teamplay, and unselfish. Harden although having episodes of crazy shooting gives the ball to his team all the time when he knows he can't create. He is super clutch in the 4th and though sometimes he may seem to be hogging the ball, he's just creating foul shots to slow the other team down. So that his own team can start creating shots. Lin we don't have to talk about how unselfish he is. In his interview he literally said he doesn't care if his stats are 0/0/0, as long as he helps get the team a win, that's all it matters to him. That's why when people say Dragic/Lowry will be a better partner with Harden I'd disagree because they are ball dominant players sort of like westbrook which could hold Harden back. I think other than CP3, Rondo and Parker, Lin is the best partner Harden could have gotten because he is a team first player and will always prioritize in looking for Harden to give him good shots. Also they are both similar in age. Asik/Parson - both the exact same values, though they haven't talked much about it, you can see it in action from the court and off court. Always creating for team first and not looking to pad their stats. I honestly think if Josh Smith or even Dwight comes, they'll ruin the chemistry of the team because they are stat padding players more than team players. But that's only my point of view because I don't know them personally. We need a PF who shares the same unselfish team first value. Candidates in my eyes that fit best so far are Bosh and Duncan. Bosh because he learned and is man enough to drop his pride to play a smaller role for the team with LBJ and Dwade, and Duncan has the Spurs mentality.
Honestly if Dwight Howard just walked away from the Lakers in the offseason and signed with Houston for the max in free agency, I would laugh and laugh and laugh some more. I would not be able to stop laughing. Laugh levels at maximum laughitude. I'm careful to say that's on the list of things that could never happen, too, because I'm pretty sure the Thunder trading away James Harden was once on that list...
Agreed. People don't realize that guys like Millsap and Jefferson will NOT come cheap. They will make our team better but not good enough to win a championship so why make the move? Every move you make should have building a championship team in mind and not just building a competitive team. Wait. Morey will surprise us, he always has. Whether it was getting what he got for a broken down T-Mac, pulling off the Martin and Harden trades out of nowhere. He always pleasantly surprises (although he almost completely ruined us with Pau Gasol...)
If the Lakers continue on their current pace I wouldn't count it out. If I were a Lakers fan I'd be more that pissed off right now. As a Rockets fan, it's hilarious.
Kevin Love is the only guy I really want the front office to swing for the fences for. I suppose LaMarcus Aldridge would be a nice consolation prize, but at the end of the day, it should be Kevin Love or bust for the Rockets.
Oh man, would that be epic. To just sign Dwight Howard without having to give anything up and pair him with Asik at the C spot...
I agree about getting a backup point guard but I think you need to give Parsons some time to develop at SF, he is a very solid young player that has a chance to be a really special player.
Good post! The uncertainty of where DMo and TJones fit...3 or 4, makes it hard to say if we need to go after a premium 4. With our youth, time is on our side, it's just hard for us as fans to be patient. Also agree that most everyone on the team is expendable in the right deal. I just hope we don't rush it and make a move that sounds exciting, but doesn't translate to title contenders.
There is a part of me that really thinks this could happen. If the Lakers don't make it past the second and the Rockets make the playoffs, or are less than three games put, Howard would be wise to come here. Wouldn't it be something if the Rockets miss the playoffs, luck into a top three pick, and then sign Howard.
When you're franchise player is a do-it-all combo guard, your next target is simply the best player you can possibly get. Position does not matter.
We don’t need no more basketball players While I would love Morey to sign another star player, on the other hand I am a great fun of creating stars out of material you have at your disposal... If anything, linsanity proved that ANY NBA player has a starlike potential... If Harden continues developing his Jordanlike potential even this roster may be enough win championship if we focus on creating and strengthening and polishing the chemistry between the current roster players... There are many example in sports that buying players don't work...you've got to develop team spirit and chemistry....and you've got to work on developing the players you've already got.... I saw a sparkles and flashes of great talent and ability in each player who got PT in 3 games this season....The primary objective should be keep developing them and unlocking their potential... In 2-3 years building chemistry and developing the talent miraculous things could happen.... It is exciting to imagine how our game will look after Harden and teammates will have 30 games this season together.... isn't it? In 2-3 years time anything is possible... Imagine what the beast Asik could be if he would just learned to dunk it properly...not to mention possibilities of improving other aspects of his game....
I like Parsons as well I was thinking more in the line of another quality backup SF to help out Delfino. After all we've got 5234125 PFs riding the pine but only Delfino to help out Parsons, unless I'm missing someone else?
Josh Smith has suspect Bball IQ, he's also a tweener who should really be focusing on PF moves, not step back jumpers (which clank all the time).
