There were more communists than Nazi’s in Germany. The Nazi Party polled lower than the Communists - but Hitler was far better at consolidating power and once he had control, he never let go.

I am sure there were young German men attracted to the uniforms, perceived power and opportunities of the Nazi Party.

My point is that Nazi’s never got above like the mid 30’s in support before the polls were no longer trustworthy.

Germans have to live with their history - but because of how history has been framed, it is often forgotten that most German’s didn’t want Hitler as their ruler - and had very little say about it.

 

Germany had multiple parties. The Nazi Party was not the most popular party in Germany - the Communists actually had more support.

The Communists were not as politically adroit as Hitler was when it came to procedures once in office.

As for support of the war - there were a lot of Germans that did not want the war. Indeed, Hitler had to stop his discussions against Jews and War at crucial points because they were not popular topics with the majority of Germans.

Hitler declared War - at a point where he had total control of propaganda in the country and after he had successfully taken land from other nations and with economic success- even at that point, many Germans wanted him to not go to war and focus on the economy and domestic programs like he promised.

You're not taking into consideration what he did for 'em. First of all most Germans were poor when he took power because they were paying reparations to the French. He immediately stopped doing that, restored their economy, n by 1936 most Germans were able to afford to go on vacations again (that wasn't the case for over a decade). He made Bmw to start making cars (they were only making airplanes until then), Mercedes went bankrupt, he saved it, Volkswagen was his doing as well. One doesn't become the ultimate leader of 80 million people, just because he says so. They've liked the idea that he was gonna unite all of the German speaking people, n restore their empire again, they've believed him. Germans are very smart n disciplined people, it wasn’t easy to fool 'em, which wasn't his intention (to fool 'em), they just didn't succeed.

 

Why did Hitler happen? Because rest of the western Europe (especially French n Brits) were fuc.king with Germans for decades. They were all allowed to have colonies while Germany wasn't. Then the WW1 happened, where they've fuc.ked 'em over again (especially in the aftermath), so Germans were like f all this we're gonna colonize the entire world.

 

Nationalism always ends up twisted and the root of a lot of racism and bigotry.

 

The right considers themselves morally superior with the added caveat of doing thinking they're God's work.
