Seattle fan board on Sportstalk.com claims del in works fro Knick's center Patrick Ewing for Seattle's Power Foward Vin Baker. This would free up playing time at Power Foward for Taylor. Sounds very logical and do-able: From Knicks POV-They could use Baker and it gets rid of Patrick, who wants to play two- to many-years more. From Seatle's POV-That puts Ewing, Lewis and Taylor up front with Payton at the point. From Rockets POV- Nothing ventured nothing gained, we all need sometnig to do in August ------------------ WINNING-The sum of the forces by which losing is resisted.
I don't think Seattle's GM is dumb enough to pull the trigger on this deal. The only teams that I could see trying to sensibly trade for Ewing are those who are close to a championship this year or next. Seattle is building for the future, and Baker has been described this summer as being in the best shape he's been in in years. I seriously doubt they trade Baker for Ewing, a player who is worse than Baker already and also only has about 2 years left in the league. ------------------ Looking for next year's Dan Langhi? I saw that post 2 days ago. It's delusional. How much credibility a speculative post by a fan carries? none. Ewing is at the end of his carreer and the sonics would have to be very stupid to pull something like that off. NEVER trade to get older. I mean, just look at what the Richmond/Webber swap did to the Wizards. Heck, Westphal even mentioned how impressive Baker was looking again after shedding some weight. So, let it rest, it WON'T happen. ------------------ "Never underestimate the heart of a champion"
Trade a guy thats making too much money for a guy thats making WAY too much money?? This rumor had to come out of NY. ------------------ Don't you have anything better to do?
Baker made $9M last year, while Ewing made $15M. Since Baker signed his contract under the new CBA, he's limited to a 12.5% raise. Ewing's contract was signed under the old CBA, so it's probably back loaded. That means that Ewing will be making at least $6M (and probably closer to $8M) more than Baker next year. Add in the fact that Baker is a 2nd year BYC player and it would be really hard for Seattle to make that trade. They'd have to include a ton more salary than just Baker. ------------------ [This message has been edited by aelliott (edited August 15, 2000).]
Ewing should of retired last season, to trade Baker for a player like Pat is just insane. ------------------ please venture to atheistalliance and rocketsonline I AM SPARTACUS

Actually, I recall it as a quote by the Sonics GM, who was impressed by Vin's shape at some camp. ------------------ The Serious Police are watching. Follow the rules or be assimilated. Shandon is underrated.
BSKBALL.com reported how Vin Baker is in great shape, as witnessed by a member of Seattle's staff. ------------------ Nederland 2002 Qualifying Campaign (Damn those penalties!!!) Houston Rockets Space Center- Not just another ClutchCity.NET clone. We're that and more!
