Do you remember when Charles Barkely was on Saturday Night Live and played one-on-one against Barney?

lol yeah, that was one of the funnier segments I've seen. Barkley is an idiot, but he's pretty damn funny when he aint criticizing my team

Barkley is dead on...everyone gets pissed about what he says about the Rockets, but frankly, I think he's just calling it as it is.

He's the guy who lites a fire under houston...I wouldn't be surprised if JVG sends him cards and gifts thanking him for calling Houston soft...

Yes, like when he said that Yao would never score 20 points in game.

The Rockets should cut a check to Charles for that comment. I dont think Yao was prepared to score that much for at east 40 games :D

If the Chinese Gov't banned him from the team for being a wimp, well, they'd probably have open revolt, but Yao would probably average 30 points and 12 rebounds a game. I'm telling you, Yao needs a kick in the behind every 14.4 minutes.

I totally agree, problem is, JVG isn't the one to do it since Yao just says "you're right coach, I do suck"; he had the same problem with Mr. Mean. Coddling him isn't gonna light a fire under him...sigh, if he had that fire he had in the Olympics, he could overcome his physical limitations.

bleh, I'm sick of talking about Yao. Someone start a non Yao thread, I'll be happy to participate

Jabbar would be ideal. He and Yao are both well-read, intelligent "gentle" giants. Jabbar was the same type of finesse player that Yao is.

I don't know his post-career history or why he's allegedly considered persona non-grata in the league but I think if he can keep his ego and "anger?" in check then he should be given every chance.

Walton would spend so much time talking that Yao would have a hard time just trying to keep up with the translation!!! Walton loves to hear himself talk!!!

Yao already produces more than Sabonis. I don't think we need Yao doing all that crazy no look passing. He needs to be more dominant type. He needs the defensive skills of Dike which he can learn from by example and the offense of Shaq. He has to find a way to dominate more. This is ridiculous. I wouldn't want to trade him though unless we got some crazy deal like a Amare and a strong power forward which would never happen.

I'm as big a fan of Ralph's days with the Rockets as anyone, but I'm in the Jabbar camp. Hakeem would be great, but I just don't think he's interested. (if you are, Dream, come on down!) Jabbar had an incredible work ethic when it came to keeping himself in shape. It's amazing that he played at such a high level for so long. If he could teach Yao how to condition himself, and that damned hook shot, that would be worth it alone. I would give him a shot during the summer (if Yao has any time), and if he shows he's changed his temperment a bit, then hire him to replace Ewing.

Hell, they should do that whether Ewing wants to leave or not. And I think Deke has been a big help to Yao. We better resign him this summer!

I agree. I think Jabbar would be a great teacher for Yao.

My second choice would be Russell. More than anything, he knew how to win as a player as well as a player/coach.
