OOPS! My bad. Should not post anything on message board before morning coffee. Should not post anything on message board before morning coffee. Sorry.
What is also funny, aside from the fact that the OP has completely fabricated a timeline of comedic movie history, is that his "80's" example of Home Alone was from 1990.
This is either pure ignorance, or some easy to disprove revisionist history. To me, this guy is the king of 80's comedy, and there was no innocence and plenty of cursing:
Two pictures were supposed to be posted with Home Alone, one was Ferris Bueller and the other, I forgot.
This Is Spinal Tap Dr. Strangelove Tootsie Monty Python And The Holy Grail Blazing Saddles Airplane Annie Hall Young Frankenstein There's Something About Mary If you are going to make a movie comedy thread, at the very least, have some decent movies...
I'm guessing you think this is some sort of put down? Since some of the Merry Melodies/Looney Toons film cartoons are just about the funniest things ever created, from my perspective that is quite a compliment. <object width=626 height=367><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://img.mail.ru/r/video2/player_v2.swf?movieSrc=list/medved201/3491/3811" /><embed src=http://img.mail.ru/r/video2/player_v2.swf?movieSrc=list/medved201/3491/3811 type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width=626 height=367 allowScriptAccess="always"></embed></object> Certainly funnier than most of the movies you listed. And given the fact that The Mask is basically a giant homage to all of those cartoons and you apparently think it is some sort of seminal moment in film...
No, I like Looney Toons / Tom & Jerry. Its not something I find hilarious today (i.e. laugh-out-loud funny), but it entertained me to no end as a child. I also think some Pixar movies deserve mention, as far as great modern comedies.
