come on I love this thread. Just stop talking about the T-Crack, he's not allowed. When you're bored, the old Bulls or Rockets argument is what it's about.

And now you see why we Rockets fans get sick and tired of this asinine topic- here it is- we are the example he uses for being lucky- just as that a-hole Carmichael Dave when he said the Rockets "magically" won 2 championships. Screw him, screw Jerry36, and screw SI!

Every year around this time, for as much as we are reminded that legendary careers are validated with a championship, we also are reminded that greatness isn't solely defined by success in the Finals. Players such as Patrick Ewing and Charles Barkley, whose statistics and playoff appearances and All-Star votes leave little doubt as to their places in history, are often remembered in June for the honor they didn't achieve, as if their careers are not complete without the hardware that places a stamp on their greatness.

Deep down, though, those men are wise enough to know that championships, while wonderful, are also a byproduct of fortuitous timing and circumstance.

Would Houston Rockets Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon have two titles had Michael Jordan not retired for two seasons in the mid-90s? Probably not. But that does not make Olajuwon's career any less stellar.

Man, yall need to stop talking about regular season basketball. It is not the same as the playoffs. If the Rockets could beat the bulls, they would have played them in the finals. You can't get no simplier than that. When it came to the playoffs they werent good enough to make to the finals to play the bulls. The thing that seperated the bulls from the rockets is that they had no nemises. They took on all comers and won. Can you say that about the rockets? Seattle don't ring a bell?

And did you seriously just reply to a comment over a year old?

And did I really just respond back?

Just like in 95 when the Rockets won. Jordan was back in the league but wasn't good enough to make it to the finals. Jordan and the Bulls were beaten by the team that the Rockets went on to sweep to win their 2nd championship.

Yet people keep on saying that Hakeem only won because Jrodan wasn't in the league. That's factually inaccurate. The Rockets took on all comers and won.

Evil doesn't die, that's why the good and just must destroy evil with no remorse.

I like how Bulls fan here completely forgets that the Bulls didn't make it to the finals during the Jordan years too

    1989-90 NBA Chicago Bulls* 55 27 .671 2 2.74 112.3 109.0 Lost Eastern Conference Finals Jackson (55-27)
    1988-89 NBA Chicago Bulls* 47 35 .573 5 2.13 109.1 107.7 Lost Eastern Conference Finals Collins (47-35)
    1987-88 NBA Chicago Bulls* 50 32 .610 2 3.76 109.0 105.5 Lost Eastern Conference Semifinals Collins (50-32)
    1986-87 NBA Chicago Bulls* 40 42 .488 5 1.27 108.6 107.6 Lost Eastern Conference First Round Collins (40-42)
    1985-86 NBA Chicago Bulls* 30 52 .366 4 -3.12 108.6 112.4 Lost Eastern Conference First Round Albeck (30-52)
    1984-85 NBA Chicago Bulls* 38 44 .463 3 -0.50 108.7 109.6 Lost Eastern Conference First Round Loughery (38-44)

Oh who made it to the finals first? Jordan? nope.

Oh another thing that would be cool is that these haters are on a plane and they get to sit next to Bill Cartright.

They would tell him how they think the Bulls would whip the Rockets and then they start talking about Hakeem.

Bill Cartright would suddenly get flashbacks of getting Dream shook that he ELBOWS them in they EYE! Forcing them to wear Goggles for half a season.

    HAHAHAHAHA!

Fake Rockets fans can get a Bill Cartwright elbow..

    TO THE FACE!!!

    HAHAHAHAHA!

"They just isolate Hakeem," Jordan said. "He's an All-Star player. He got hot and the way to stop him when he gets like that is simple -- you don't let him get the ball.

"Because when he does get it, you can't stop him. We have no one who can match up with him. No one."

I have great difficulty respecting the knowledge of "basketball fans" and/or who claim the Rox had little to no chance of defeating the Bulls. Not only does it blatantly ignore the history of the two teams versus one another, it speaks to their limited knowledge on the some of the most basic of basketball intricacies, namely, that basketball is a matter of matchups.

I don't feel like scrolling up or down to find out the identity of the buffoon that said that since we didn't meet up with the bulls, that we weren't good enough to beat them. Whomever it is, though, obviously has no understanding of the words "bad matchup". It wouldn't matter if Houston was the 1st or 8th team out West and the Jordannaires were 1st or 8th in the East. As long as they had no answer for Olajuwon and the Rockets had no fear for Jordan via Madmax, Chicago was up against their greatest challenge. The secret to defeating them was no secret at all: get an offensively and defensively dominant center, coupled with adept wingmen. NYK had Ewing and Sprewell. MIA had Mourning and a slew of hackers. ORL had Shaq to go with Penny, Scott, and Anderson. Not so coincidentally, Ewing and Zo had epic battles against MJ and the Bulls (oh, and a big eff ewe to Jim Rome for ruining the word "epic" forevermore). Pat and Mourning weren't up to the level of Dream and Shaq, though. Nor were Sprewell and Coles, et al, defenders or mental warriors on par with Vernon. In the end, those differences made it downright easy for the Rockets to manhandle the Bulls at times.

the bulls were great teams during the 90s

    the rockets were great teams

sadly they did not meet in the finals

the rockets would have destroyed them and we wouldnt need this silly debate and mj would have had a spot on his legacy, a spot named (H)akeem

Oh, and whoever said the playoffs are different, you're absolutely correct. Dream once was ONE POINT away from a 50/25 game...on the ROAD...against a team notorious for playing illegal defense. Against the Bulls, he may have dropped 60/30. Some guys have a 5th gear they take it to in the playoffs. Olajuwon had a 10th gear, at times. No amount of tongue-waggin was going to stop that brutality.
